New Injectors?

I changed my cold start valve/injector a couple of months ago in a hope to solve my starting problems - but it didn't. I'm now thinking about putting new injectors in. Is this likely to solve my problem, where it normally takes a few revs on starting to keep it running? Also, it had felt a bit jerky recently when driving around town - could this be shi**y injectors?

My C seems to run fine at motorway speeds, so pleaseeee, any suggestions whether you think this could be my injectors? I've already replaced things like the distributor cap and rotor arm - although that was over a year ago now, but my C has never started well since I've had it, and I think that it's generally felt slightly hesitant around town too.

 

Any advice would be most appreciated, otherwise I'm just going to go ahead and order new injectors! My C's almost done 100k now, and don't think it's ever had it's injectors replaced (I have all the receipts for everything dating back to the original owner), so even if it doesn't solve my starting problem I'd hope to see some improvement in the running.

 

However, could old HT leads cause these sort of problems, or does the fact that it runs well at motorway speeds mean that the HT leads must be ok, as I'd imagine that if they were a bit iffy, they'd cause problems at all speeds - but please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also thinking of replacing them anyway, although planning to replace the injectors first.

try to get hold of a passat haynes manual that covers the kr and 9a 16v engines (1988-92), posibly not in print anymore, it gives a lot of info that's helpful when testing the injection/ignition sysstem on the 16v.

although the 2.0 has ke-jetronic, the system is very similar.

you can test the HT leads for resistances, visible corrosion at the ends, timing of the engine, spray pattern of the injectors, fuel system pressures etc etc. If you don't have access to another similar car to swap bits over from, or the test equipment to check certain components then your best bet may be to take it to a specialist like Stealth, within an hour (approx 50 quid) they'd almost certainly have diagnosed your problems.

It's not always injectors, mine have done 150K and are fine.

Thanks for the advice, I do actually have a copy of that particular Haynes manual, so perhaps I should take another look in it!

Hi Did u find any thing that helped in the Haynes Manual as I have a similar problem, Tried cleaning the injectors but the engine still misses, then suddenly goes off, the fuel sprays well with force from thye pump, so the reason Why I felt the injectors were playing up

Whilst being no expert- I had a problem with my old Vaux Corsa SRi and had to get an expert diagnostics chap out- it WAS one of the injectors, but the Fella said it was only the second faulty injector he had ever seen.

 

What I guess I'm saying is that one certainly wouldn't replace the injectors as a matter of course (like you would HT leads), as they only fail very rarely. I would only replace once you are sure everything else is OK!
