Central locking question

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I posted a message a few weeks back about my c/locking problems.

Namely, the drivers side door lock was activating the c/locking, but

as soon as the key went back to mid posn. then the c/l would open

itself again.

Also there is no resistance in the lock when key is turned, and the

passenger door doesnt work the c/l, although there is resistance in

the lock.

I had a reply saying the drivers lock was

knackered, and sounds like the master sender was too. He said it was

in the drivers door, but have since been told its in the boot. Does

anyone know for sure where it is? Is it in the door? Or is it in the

boot?

I also am having problems with my alarm. It locks the whole car, but

after a minute or two, it starts whaling, then switches off, then

goes again. Could this be caused by the c/l or just the alarm

knackered? Its a Laser line, are these standard? Are they any good?

Is it worth repairing, or just changing?

Lots of questions I know, but I need the help.

Cheers

Stan

Stan, the alarm wailing thing is prolly the bonnet switch, corrosion and stuff. Most alarms I have come across, start monitoring the bonnet/boot switch as soon as you arm them. The doors are usually next and then the ultrasonics last, after the interior conditions have stabilised.

Does it have a status LED, if so is it flashing when you cancel the alarm. The number of flashes tells what the cause of the trigger is. If you dont have instructions try doing a search or find a Laserline dealer, Halfords?

The central locking on C's can be operated from both doors. There is a switch built into each handle, the switch feeds the central locking control unit, inside the drivers side rear quarter panel I think. The CU runs the vaccuum pump(boot) in the appropriate direction to either lock or unlock the doors.

The locking, when controlled by the alarm just feeds a signal to the CU, which triggers the pump.

It sounds like you have got a couple of different problems to me.

I would go for sorting the central locking out first. Or fit rear door handles and make sure the boot lock works OK, so you can still get in the car. There was a rear handle thread in the last couple of days I think.

For the alarm, if you were much nearer I could have done you a mega deal on a CAT 1. From a fitters point of view, finding someone to look at it and fix it would be hit and miss. They might want £50 to look at it?

That would probably be money better spent on a new alarm. Especially if yours is getting towards 5 years old.

PM if I can maybe help you more.

Gavin

Ive been told, on another site, that my drivers door lock is knackered, causing the alarm to think the door is open, which makes it go off. Also that I need to change the handle. You got any toughts on this?

Also what deal on a cat 1 could you do? I may be interested.

Ive had a problem with my central locking as well that has been fixed tonight, ill just list everything and there may be something there that helps.

Everything was fine till I asked someone at my work to get me something from the car, they tried to open the car with the key instead of the remote setting the alarm off.

When I went back to the car, it would open ok with the central locking but when I tried to lock it nothing. I also noticed that if I turned the ignition off it was activating the remote closure of windows and sunroof.

I would try locking the car from outside and the drivers lock would only lock the drivers door.

At the passenger side I had a similar problem to yourself, everything would lock then unlock. I figured out that by turning the key to the right then quickly back to the left everything would stay locked unless the alarm was set first then they would still unlock themselves.

After this I noticed my sunroof was no longer working at all, checked the fuses and all were fine.

Now a few weeks later, I put the key back in the passenger lock and turned it and held it as if I was trying to manually operate the central locking and I listened to hear if the sunroof relay clicked, it did. :D

When I turned the key back to the center I kept listening and the relay clicked back but then as the key got to the centre I heard it click again, turns out the lock is the problem as it was jamming on the remote closure to at least the sunroof, though strangely the windows were fine when the car was running.

I fixed it by turning the key back slightly till I heard the relay unclick again and now everyhting is working perfect, remote locking and all. :p

Like I said, dont know if any of this will help but at the very least it will let you know that the locks can cause problems.
