Fooling dvd headunit

Does anyone know how i can wire up my headunit to think that im parked up. At the back of the unit there is a foot brake wire and a handbrake wire.....iv tried a few things but unsuccessful at the mo, help!!!!!

it depends how it works, usually they have a wire/switch you connect to the handbrake so that the handbrake has to be on in order for the headunit to work. I'd suggest connecting that wire to something with a constant current, like the back of the ciggy lighter. Dont take my word for it though since i've no idea if that'd be the right voltage.

both cables to be connected to appropriate bulbs eg the handbrake connects to the handbrake light in the dash. So should i give both a live or one a live and one a ground

I would have thought chrishill suggestion for a costant power feed to the handbrake wire would work tbh

I think you'll find it needs to be grounded rather than live'd....

(Last headunit I installed with a DVD I had to do this).

 

Try grounding it first - since you won't blow anything up then ;)

Then it's time to put 12v to it 8)

the apline headunits got some weird thing where to access the dvd, you must use the foot brakes to stop, apply the handbrake while still holding down foot pedal, release and reapply the handbrake and finally release the footbrake to work

Sounds like you need a couple of hidden switches then.

Turn on pretend foot brake.

Turn on pretend hand brake.

Turn off pretend hand brake... you get the idea.

 

I might be you need ground to the handbrake and live to the foot brake cables... Not sure, I'm sure the instructions will tell you

The reason that you have to do this procedure is simple:

 

It's illegal to have a video screen where it's visible to the driver unless the car is parked and too many people know to simply earth the handbrake connector on the older headunits, so Alpine have gotten clever with it to get around getting sued when some Max-Power chav muppet drives their Paxo through a bus queue of people while watching "2fast2furious" on their nice new Alpine DVD headunit...

 

My Clarion unit simply needed the handbrake cable attaching to earth to make it work at all times... 8)

that seems crazy to me, but then I suppose that prevents what peeps used to do, then they had the handbrake slightly up, to allow the incar TVs to work.

 

still seems crazy that a car stereo tells you how to drive though :roll:
