Airbox hose help

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, had my 16 valver for a few months now, but lack of access to a computer has kept me away.

Anyway, i was having a poke around in my engine bay and discovered a hose was flapping about. It comes out from the bottom of the airbox and goes round the back of the engine by the firewall. The metal bit at the end has rusted away from whatever it was attached to.

What's it for? And would it hurt if i took it out?

sorry about the size of thephotos too!

ps. can't believe nobody has taken this name yet!

It is for ducting exhaust heated air into the air box in very cold conditions to prevent injector icing but it rarely gets cold enough in the UK for this to be a problem.

So really, it may be an advantage to keep it off when its not cold, thus stopping hot air from coming in the airbox?

Not really  IIRC there's a temp sensing flap valve inside the airbox that will only open it if it gets cold enough to need the pre-warmed air. I've left mine on.
