Beetlebug_2001 0 Posted October 8, 2003 Hiya ppl, haveing trouble with the motor, at my girlfriends house now and am hoping to get a quick an easy fix but probs get told the worst from u lot, was parking up put my foot down to pull forward did a partial wheels spin one that makes the front end of the car bounce and then it just cut out on me and it wont start, the engines turning over and everything from what i can see is in place, any ideas what it could be?, i was thinking it may be flooded could it be that? it has an imobilizer fitted also, whats the best way of disarming the damn thing if it is that?. chuck 0 Posted October 8, 2003 three possible problems i could be. lack of spark lack of fuel too much fuel. You can check the first two OK, but if its the last you can either wait a while, or if you urgently need to get away you could remove an injector and start it (alot quicker and easier than removing a plug) - this will draw in clean air and reduce the fuel vapour mix - you'll have to put injector back in quickly tho as it will die otherwise. If you do this, don't be alarmed, the loud squeeling is only the air being sucked in thru the injector hole. BTW, I had to do this for a while when my cold start valve was stuck on - wouldn't start when warm as it was flooding itself.
Beetlebug_2001 0 Posted October 8, 2003 hiya, ok not needing the car should be left standing for 2 hours or so, is that long enough for the fuel to go away if its flooded?, engine was just warming up after it did it so could be the coldstart valve but at the same time i had put my foot down quite a bit before pulling away so probs full of fuel, also noticed that when i leave it a few mins turn it over it start for like half a second and dies stright off any more ideas? chuck 0 Posted October 8, 2003 Sounds like a cold start valve problem. If the sensor is broken, it could be stuck on (ON is on for up to something like 8 seconds after starting). Disconnect the blue connector on the front right of the inlet (when looking at it from front of car). Try starting it then. If it fires its the sensor thats at fault. If it is overfueling, then 2 hours should be plenty to allow the engine to cool enough to require the extra fuel for starting. If that don't work, it could also be the ISV. Is it buzzing with the ignition on. If not, give it a whack with a hammer. It should buzz - quite coarsly too. If thats not working, it would allow the engine to start, but not to idle, it'll just die sraight after it catches.

My non-starting valvers always started after clouting the ISV! Kev
