can i remove scratches on red rears easily?

how easy is it to remove scratches etc on some tinted red rear lights to shine them up a bit, the ones rustynuts has for sale?

 

wold t-cutting them work or will this just remove the lacquer? any ideas please, cheers, craig.

sand them down and then relacquer.

 

I haven't seen the extent of the scratches, but if they are deep, just sand them down further, re apply some tint, sand, reapply, then a few coats of lacquer (sanding between) will bring them up to new 8)

As above really,you ideally want very fine wet n dry to start with and see how that brings them up.Something like 2000/3000 grit...

 

If you start off too rough it will possibly remove too much,but start off fine and see how it goes,going rougher if need be.

yeah, agreed, start on a fine grit, as I assume the scratches are just cosmetic.

 

You can always go to a rougher paper if this doesn't work, and don't forget/avoid the sanding in between layers

so t-cut or something similars out of the question then! if this is the only way to get the shine back up and scrastches out then ill give it a go at some point, cheers for the advice!

use scratch x, its a tube of polish that removes all scratches, its amazing stuff and can be used on most surfaces, even wood!!! it bought my rear lights up a treat :D even used it on my numberplates to remove light scratching :lol: they look new
