bigtunes 0 Posted November 16, 2006 A work colleague of one of my mates came back to his Golf the other day to find it had been broken into, but the strange thing was all the windows were wound down, and there was no obvious damage to locks, handles etc. Another mate is convinced that this is a known problem with the Golf, to the extent that Watchdog even featured it. Problem is none of us can find any information, anywhere. So 2 questions: Does anyone remember hearing anything about it? Is there anything that can be done to prevent it happening again? Toad 0 Posted November 16, 2006 Isn't it something to do with the vacuum central locking system VW use? Edit; Is that a bit more ambiguous?
Phil K 0 Posted November 16, 2006 I don't know what it is but have heard of it before... was it a mk4 Golf? Have a look on the Seat Cupra forum as the Leon also suffered from this - I don't think it's talked about too much on the net as it's an obvious security problem that doesn't want more publicity than necessary... bigtunes 0 Posted November 16, 2006 Toad - That wouldn't open the windows though? Phil - I did make a point of not asking how its done, more interested in preventing it happening again.

Ought to learn to read properly.... The windows thing does ring a bell now, but that's about it.
Phil K 0 Posted November 16, 2006 bigtunes, I wasn't implying that you did ask how it was done, but I think you'll find that prevention solutions would still give clues to the fault and thus there won't be much/any info on the net... I have a feeling that Seat re-called a lot of the Leons to put this right so would think that VW will have a solution too.
bigtunes 0 Posted November 16, 2006 Phil - Apparently VW are denying all knowledge, but thats VW for you... I have found a fix of sorts on the seat forum, so thanks for pointing me over there. Toad - Does that actually work? I thought it was an urban myth!
Toad 0 Posted November 16, 2006 I dunno..... That's why I had a question mark at the end. :D I can't see it would work, but I could always be wrong.
