Advice needed on advertising car

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I have a non-running 93 2.0 16v Corrado. It looks like it is just in need of a new ECU. However I've spent as much as I'm going to on it and I'm at the point where I'm just going to get what I can for it in the state it is in.

Basically wondered what kind of price I am likely to get for it, and so what I should advertise it at on the for-sale forum.

(Apologies if this is not the correct place to ask this- please could someone point me in the right direction?)

State of the car is as follows:

New starter motor, distributor, HT leads, sparks, battery. The engine is apparently fine (my local VW specialists spent a lot of time trying to get it running, checked everything, and came to the conclusion it must be ECU.)

Bodywork and interior is in good nick. It has a nice CD player and great rear speakers.

I'd rather sell it in one piece rather than as spares - could probably be got running by someone prepared to take the time.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Kai

Might be worth putting out an SOS.. there might be a fellow 2.0 16v Corrado owner living near you who is happy to loan you a spare ECU or even temporarily fit theirs just for you to help rule it out? :)

Yeh, you'll get more money if you either

A/ Get an ECU and get it running

-or-

B/ Can say for sure that it is the ECU by testing someone elses in there.

Good luck with it. :)

Thanks for your suggestions.

The thing is, the ECU has actually been tested and passed - the previous garage I was using (who I now have extreme doubts about) sent it off for testing and it passed. I subseqently took it to another garage when the first one closed down. They have gone over the whole car at great length and the only thing they can think it may be is the ECU. But as it had been tested they were dubious about shelling out the cash to try a new one on the off chance.

If I had thought to post on here while the car was still at the garage, the idea if checking it with another ECU would be appealing, but as I have now towed it home, and don't really have the skills to start swapping ECUs and so forth, so I think I'll just leave it as is.

And to be honest I have expended so much money and emotional energy on this car that I'm keen to get shot of it, even if it means getting substantially less for it than I could if I put some more effort and research into it.

So, has anyone got a rough idea what it may be worth in it's current condition?

Thanks again,

Kai
