Bojmobile 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Hey guys, My VRs wheel has been really sticky the last few days. In the summer I noticed the top of the wheel was flaking off in the heat and it seems now with the cold weather and condensation that this area has become sticky. Has anyone else experienced this? Anybody got a spare good condition VR wheel? Cheers Glenn
Son of a Beesting 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Have you tried cleaning it with a good quality leather cleaner or is it past that stage already?
Bojmobile 0 Posted December 19, 2006 I do have leather cleaner but have never used that on the wheel - didn't know if it'd make the wheel super slippy.
Storm Monkey 0 Posted December 19, 2006 my old leather metro (yes, I admit it!) wheel did the same. The costing/outer layer breaks down and goes mank. It might be repairable, but I'd be supprised. Sounds like time to go shopping. Cheers, Phil
Bojmobile 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Cheers Phil - I wanna keep the car as close to original as possible - anyone got a spare wheel?
DaveStorm 0 Posted December 20, 2006 Mines going a bit like this too, I've tried the leather cleaner but it's just about past that stage now, how much is a new wheel from VW dare i ask?
nocrap 0 Posted December 20, 2006 I do believe the VR leather one is around £300........
RS VR6 0 Posted December 21, 2006 Haha...do you have sweaty hands? :cyclops2: Well...a solution would be to get a steering wheel that made of ployurethane not leather. You can get them dirt cheap off Ebay. :blackeye:
Storm Monkey 0 Posted December 21, 2006 If you get warm hands though (like me anyway), wont a poly wheel get just a little sweaty and slippery?
RS VR6 0 Posted December 21, 2006 It'll be the same as a leather wheel...but it won't dissolve like the leather. :salute:
