Son of a Beesting

do you lose your heat exchange when putting in a oil cooler?

Recommended Posts

As above.

I have a 1993 vr, I have done a search but cant find the definite answer. I am getting an oil cooler kit from stealth this week and just wondered if I should finish removing the heat exchanger.

Thanks :D

I kept mine on my mk2 VR - Used a longer bolt that a mate had made for us.

We used the same sandwich plate and hoses from my 16v kit and just fitted the pipes with he angled ends near the plate instead of into the cooler

Yes keep the OE heat exchanger mate, but replace it with a new one and also the hoses whilst you're there. You don't want to be replacing either of those items (especially the little hoses) on a cold, dark winter's night because they've popped!! So take the oppurtunity to issue some preventative maintenance!

Anyway, the HE maintains a fast warm up for winter driving - where you need the engine up to temp as quickly as possible to drive out moisture.

If you order the kit from Stealth, you get everything you need, including the longer centre tube.
