Simon 0 Posted October 17, 2003 [align=left]Have just bought a VR6 auto, appart from being less fun to drive I was wondering if there was any other performance differences compared to the manual. All stats I have looked at say the 0-60 and top speed are the same, but I find this hard to believe as the gearing is different. Anyone know?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 17, 2003 You'll probably find the incremental acceleration times are faster because slush boxes have awesome kick-down, especially when allied to a big, torquey engine. My old 325i BMW auto would mince a manual in kick-down. Just be careful with the box, don't over do it when pulling away as you'll bend the torque converter's blades and you really don't want to know how much a new torque converter costs. Simon 0 Posted October 18, 2003 I thought the car seemed quick with the kick down, but as i had never driven a manual I had nothing to compare it to. Thanks for the info though.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 18, 2003 Manual would be faster point to point but in everyday driving, the Auto would feel just as quick. Kev
