flusted 0 Posted January 20, 2007 Ive just finished making up my own water injection set up. Its all working and really has made a big difference, and you feel it kick in. I basically used a cold start injector ( i know the water will prob kill it but its an experiment) Then drilled into my screen wash bottle and fitted a headlight washer pump which are huge and seem very powerful (kept blowing pipes off) Il post pics up very soon. Questions are what screen wash is best to use or best place for methenol? Im using 50/50 screen wash and distilled water at the moment. When should it kick in? Ive got it set at about 7psi at the moment. Im also open to opinions of this set up, i know it works and makes a difference but obviously is no aquamist kit I also know ford used 2 screen washer pumps on there WI set up on some escort cossies
eatthis 0 Posted January 20, 2007 mines set to come on at 4 psi which is approx 3200 ish rpm
Supercharged 2 Posted January 20, 2007 Pics?? If your sticking with that pump then you could just buy a new 7ltr screenwash bottle that has the outlet / holder for it... I think model/hobby shops are best for methanol if you have one nearby...

flusted 0 Posted January 20, 2007 The bigger bottle fouls on the weighted shift rod. Just checked my Air inlet temp gauge and as soon as the WI kicks in,it drops 4degrees
-Neil- 0 Posted January 20, 2007 what does this water injection do?
_Monkey 0 Posted January 21, 2007 Looking forward to seeing the pics of this, thinking of following in your footsteps here!
cata 0 Posted January 21, 2007 It cools the engine a little but more importantly it prevents engine knock. It seems they are mainly recommended for F.I. but anyone can benefit from having one.
ZippyVR6 0 Posted January 21, 2007 nice one Aide, always tip my hat to the way you just take stuff on and make it work. Can you feel the difference and is it worth it?
flusted 0 Posted January 21, 2007 totally feel the difference, just pulls so much harder now when it kicks in. Other benifits inc it totally steam cleans your combustion chambers removing carbon deposits. The water cools the inlet charge down (4 degrees is alot) and the meth i beleive increases the octane of the fuel? Will take some pics later today Does anyone know if the rado headlight washer bottle is different to the golf mk2 1, as the mk2 1 i have fouls the weighted shift rod? dnac 0 Posted January 21, 2007 Methanol also burns cooler, so you may reduce the engine temp slightly as well, guess it depends how long its on for.

g60bv 0 Posted January 24, 2007 try not to mix methenol in with you washer water. as it will take the paint off when you clean your screen. the aqua mist kits run at high pressure 100psi and force water throu a hole 0.6 to 0.8 mm. depending on the jet size. its all quite accurate. the pump mists the water - deatomized. this maximises the surface area and thus cooling properties. if you just 'squirt' water in to the inlet it will cool to a degree and the water quantities are unknown and dropplet size to big. you could be doing more harm than good, in the longrun. i would reccomend water injection. i have used it for years. and althou it can have its moments with reliability with the pressure switches , the aquamist kits are excellent. i would. .. look out for second hand kits on ebay and such forums. and save and get a new kit. the thing to watch out for on secondhand kits is pump reliability. as the only alcohol you can use is methanol any other and it will damage the pump seals. when water injection kicks in the temp should drop a minimum of 15'c using the .6 jet. and 20 with the .8 when in let temps are 20'c. it will not go below zero. so on a cold day with air temps at say 5'c. and with the intercooler size you have. the water injection will not do much. but in the summer it is brillent. hope this help. and well done for making up the kit. if people don't try these things they wont get the under standings behind how they work. top chap. flusted 0 Posted January 24, 2007 So any guesses to what size jet the injector is? I understand that it may not ever be as good as an aquamist but if cosworth used to small washer bottle pumps then surely it cant be that bad? This has cost me at most £25 and i feel the difference. If i forked out £200 for an aquamist kit, would i feel more? Guess i wont know till summer :D DIY twin inlet kit coming next
Deluk 0 Posted January 26, 2007 so it works on NA motors? MMMMMM :) I hate summer lag
flusted 0 Posted January 27, 2007 I believe it can work on N/A motors but not so critical as the inlet temps arent as hot
Deluk 0 Posted January 27, 2007 yeah in the summer its slower all cars are
Sexual Castles 10 Posted March 14, 2012 Very old thread I know but am looking for help for my G60 water/meth injection kit.. Flusted, where did you place the injector on the intake as I can't really make out from the photos and am finding mixed opinions on before or after AIT (co-pot), distance to TB, damaging MAF etc. Also as you've had it fitted so long did you find a good mix of water:meth and PSI to inject and did you have it tuned for the higher octane? Thanks in advance
