G60 - 1991

Please can someone help me!! My very much loved corrado is letting me down? just before christmas i was driving along quite happily and my car seemed to stall i tried to bump it (as i was on a dual carriage way) but nothing happened so i managed to coast over to the layby! and there i sat for about 1/2 an hour my husband arrived and took out some of the fuses etc and gave it a quick look over and could see nothing obvious and then all of a sudden it seemed to run so off we went.

Since then its been a non runner she sometimes starts up and runs fine but after about 5 mins cuts out and we cant get her started?? we've checked all the relays and they seem fine? they were a bit wet as i seem to have quite a bad leak, but all dried out now, it has fuel all the obvious things have been checked so we are racking our brains to think of what it could be?

update

Spoke to my husband, he said, the car has full electrics working and the starter turns fine, fuel pump primes etc, the alarm is a clifford and is in valet mode as i thought it may of been that, but as i remember i think the immobiliser was starter interrupt and that works, his thought was the ecu control relay as its known to be a common vw fault as suffers from dry solder joints, but unsure which one it was so he took all of them out opened them up and cleaned and checked with an electrical solvent spray, dried out and replaced, started run till it started to get warm then just stalls as if someone turns fuel off, it is a weird one because on the occasions it does start it runs spot on, so puts you off thinking its ecu, coil, leads, fuel pump etc etc, as it wouldnt run right.

NEW - Tried ignition not that started straight up sounds great then after 10 mins exactly cuts out!!!

ALL FIXED YEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dodgy alarm system ? i had this a few days ago. The immobiliser cut in while i was driving and switched the car off! wasnt a good feeling, i put it down to me not using the car much and the battery not having enough power in it, hasnt happenned since, maybe you should check the battery output. failing that maybe the fuel?

did the car go really sluggish and feel very underpowered before it cut out? Mine did this and after I changed the fuel filter it's been fine.

could also be the ignition switch mate, my G60 used to cut out like this when driving along before I had it replaced a few weeks ago.......one of the most memorable was when I was doing 70+mph in the fast-lane of the M1 on the way back to Aberdeen from Northampton just after I had picked her up, causing a 7 mile tail-back !

yup, I'd change the ignition switch too... they're not a simple "on-off" switch, they actually turn on and off about 4 different circuits depending on which position they're in and it tends to be that one of these contacts fails/gets resistive and messes up the running and starting of the car...

For under £30 and an hour's messing about to fit it, it's well worth trying it IMHO... 8)

Use a genuine VAG one, don't buy one from Euro car parts or German Swedish and French as they simply are not as good quality... ;)
