Reccomended Alarms?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Might as well stick this in ICE as it usually comes in under the same category.

I keep thinking about getting the awful awful alarm system on my Corrado replaced (well, its right down the bottom of the list, but I still keep thinkin about it!). It doesnt seem to tie into the C's system at all - the key fob simply has one button which is arm & disarm - the locks and stuff are all done by the key.

I wouldn't mind getting a Clifford or Toad alarm system installed eventually where I can do the locking all from the keyfob...

Any suggestions on ones to go for, and expected cost including removing my crappy old alarm?

Thanks :)

Go for a Clifford the Clifford concept 300 is the mid range so to speak alarm system. I have one installed in my car and the beauty is its G4 technology so you can add bits onto the system as and when you like for instance dual proximity, intellistart, tilt and motion and all that sort of stuff the concept 300 will set you back about £300 depending on where you get it from I payed £400 for mine but I had intellistart fitted at the same time as I used to have to go to work at 4 in the morning, so it was nice being able to start the car up from my bed and get ready while it was warming up!! Now it's just a pose mod as I dont have to go to work till 8 :D :D

lol @ pose mode!

I presume the intellistart wouldn't work if the car was in gear?

I'm sure it would but I have a feeling that your car would not be where you left it the night before

I have a toad Ai600 Cat 1 cost me 290 installed and so far so good (fingers crossed)

Intellistart is a very cool feature.. a friend of mine who used to own a C VR6 (it made me want to buy one) used to have it, and I thought it was a totally cool gadget :)

But if you have it installed, doesnt it void thatcham certification or something?

I've got a Clfford G4 Ace system, built in intellistart and Black Jaxx, Also has duel Zone Proximaty sensors and soon to have intellivoice.

On a manual Car you have to set the intellistart by pressing the buttons on the remote, and turn the key to the off position, the car keeps running till the lock button is pressed then locks and shuts down the car.

If the battery goes down and getting flat the car starts up for a set length of time to charger the battery, it also has a frost feature to keep the baby worm.

then when you return to you car you hit the start button and thr car start, nice, great in the winter for starting the car and worming it up while still getting dressed for work, or in the summer for getting the AC running !!

The Black Jaxx is anti car jack, works a treat!! tried it out a few times on myself to see what it does.

Duel Zone watches the inside and outside of the car so you could leave windows open (really meant for soft tops).

Intellivoice- spech synth messages of alarms and alerts and reports what set the alarm of when you return.

all the other standard feature are including in the G4 system. But before you get intellistart check your insurance!!!

I'd be wary of the Intellistart on a manual car - a chap on VWvortex (US forum) started his modded Mk2 Golf this way...and ended up damaging the front end of the car and his wall/fence as it was left in gear!!

I have to say if the intellistart is fitted correctly and set up correctly this cannot happen as you have to leave the car running, get out and then lock the car, turning the engine of at the same time to set the Start feature, unless you do this the car cannot be started remotely.

Also forgot to mention the Short stop feature, as it sounds really, get out the car lock the car and leave the engine running while you nip for a paper or post a letter or something, very handy.

Joby if you have a total closure alarm it may chirp if you have a facility on it called dual proximity this is an add on to some allarms and what it does is create an invisible barrier around the car if something breaks that barrier it will chirp if it is broken three times in a course of 30 seconds or so the alarm will think it is being broken into so will sound the alarm!!! or it could just be a naff alarm if it doesn't have this function :D :D

The intellistart can only be initialised with the car running and to shut it off you have to get out the car and alarm the car, so it is impossible to leave it in gear with the intellistart initialised,

I have no idea if the intelistart voids the thatcham aproval but how are the insurers gonna know about unless I tell em

short stop mode is brill it will automatically shut off after 10 mins if you haven't returned and put the keys back in the ignition. I ve only got one problem with that function know I cant lock the doors manually anymore due to the fact I ve put passat rear door handles on it OH BUGGER!!!

On mine when i hit the lock button the car locks and arms and leave the engine running.

I also have button two on my remote programmed to lock the car without arming the alarm, i also use this as a long pulse for the window roll up, Basically i can set my windows a little open and lock the car leaving them open or lock with button one and then hit button 2 for total closure. Give me more control than total closure.

My C came with a Cobra alarm / immobiliser and it seems to work very well – has 2 sirens fitted in different locations so it should be a bugger to disable in a short period of time (fitted by Canterbury hi-fi).

I’d also recommend a microscan system. You active a pager-type device and if the car door is opened (regardless of whether the alarm is set) the pager beeps. Added security of you have to park on the street given that most alarms are ignored.

See my thread http://corrado.atx-hosting.co.uk/viewto ... highlight=

"The true story of a great escape - v.long"

I had a cobra alarm fitted and the main unit is with the alarm in the engine compartment and can be silenced in seconds. I guess that with a battery back up in the second alarm it will keep going for a bit but I would be cautious about sticking with the cobra :(

i had the cobra high frequency fitted to mine, it satrted playing up and with some investigation at the fitters and 4 alarms later we found out that the brain of the alarm was being spiked from the coil  , tried moving it but with the same end result a corrupt system. changed to a clifford concept 300 with add on's and no probs with it. :)
