Audi door handle conversion

has anyone on here done the audi a3 door handle conversion on their corrado?

 

I know there is a bit of body work involved eg welding and painting doors, but a full respray is happening in a few weeks so thats not an issue.

 

if so where can i buy the kit?

Making them fit is supposed to quite difficult. I think budget a few hundred pounds on getting them fitted.

Don't get the ones from Venom - They are a bit of a nightmare to fit.

 

Go buy yourself 2 rear doors from an Audi A6 off ebay (I got the pair for £60!!! :shock: ) Then get them cut out and fitted!!!

They are so s*xy looking but seriously costly to fit if you use someone who hasn't fitted them before, so choose carefully.

I've bought genuine audi A6 ones and fitted them, they look fab but I can't for the life of me understand how to get them to lock !!!!! I've got the bar coming off the middle of the handle then it lifts the mech by 2 inches but the full travel of the handle v's the catch is 4inches hence the catch needed to be shortened by 2inches. This has possed me with the problem that I can't lock the car because the door lock only works with the catch is at the 4inches position not 2 inches position (i.e. the catch is fooling the lock into thinking its already open)

 

What did you do ? Do you buy the audi locking catch ? is it something in the bar that joins the lock to handle ? electric ? does the venom kit have all the linkages ? help ! I was supposed to be driving the car but now I can't.

As for the venom kit - they don't come with ANY linkages!!!

Arr man, I'm so not ever going to drive that car ! I was thinking about trying to fit the audi locking mechs as a last resort !

 

Anyone know where I could get a copy of the parts sketch for the door locking mech for an A6 ? Is there a web site or do I need to go to the audi garage for a print out ?

Have you bought rear handles?

 

Without seeing the finished article but understanding the theory as discussed much over the last few weeks, you need to make a threaded rod with a 90deg bend in it. To go through the 2 holes above the handle mech that then sits over the arm that pokes out of the doorcatch mechanism, then its a case of trial and error to get the perfect length to let it lock and operate in a smooth action!
