APX or BAM ? re engine conversion

I'm on the lookout for a 1.8T engine to convert my 1.8 16v.

 

Does anybody know what the difference between the APX and BAM engine codes are for the 1.8T ?

why not turbo your 16v?

 

not sure of the differences but when i looked into it a while ago, the older agu lump was a good choice as it had big valves and a distributer so i could run digifant 11 from a g60.

I guess I could turbo my 16v, but at the minute I'm fancying the younger 20v engine with a hell of of a lot less miles on the clock.

see what you mean. was chatting to a mate and he suggested the earlier engine was better, BAM i think......

i had similar ideas but decided to stay 16v and challenge my self to an engine rebuild.

There isn't much to choose between the two when doing a transplant. Rumour has it that the BAM is stronger but I have seen both fail. About the only reason I can think of to choose a BAM is that it has an Exhaust Gas Temperature sender in the turbo which can be useful during set up if your ECU of choice will display the temp, that and the fact that a BAM will be younger.
