Removing heater box cog

Recommended Posts

My heater stopped working on the windscreen and foot setting so took the dash apart and found the cables were intact but one of the cogs had snapped. Does anybody know how to remove them? Is it worth sticking the old one back together or whill to just break?

Cheers

be interested to see the answer to this, as my cog has also broken. the knob just goes round and doesnt select the other positions. I doubt that gluing it will last very long tbh.

I think if I take the dash apart again it will be for a more permanent repair so I don't have to do it all again. I've managed to manually adjust the cog to the windscreen setting so at least I'll have visibility until it's fixed.

Do you mean one of the cogs on the heaterbox by the passenger footwell?

If so:

You will have to remove the lower panel under the glovebox, and then carefully wedge a screwdriver underneath the cog and it should pop out. I haven't tried gluing one back together before, it may be easier to go to the scrappers and get one off some VAG car of the similar year - loads of models use them, they are obsolete from VW by the way.

Ive done a little how to somewhere, where the pin that holds the cog in is replaced by a nut/bolt...will find it shortly.

Its held with a pin as standard, that needs pushing out from inside the heater box,but it may just prise off (the cog) if the three prongs are snapped.

Neil.
