Woo hoo another one done (almost!!), I'm getting mine finished for 12th July (wedding!!) so we'll have to meet up after that and swap tales Chris, just how close is your rad to the inlet manifold though buddy? Mine is awful close......Hope all the wiring goes ok, interested to see how you get on with him.....

Hmmm, it is very close, but I'm hoping my VT mount will stop anything nasy happening, otherwise I'll have to invest in a 11" Spal fan. Think we'll have to organise a 24v get together.

Its actually not been that bad so far, its taken alot longer than planned, all down to a few missing parts and some broken bits, plus having spent over 2 weeks out of the country and 3 weeks in Nottingham, I've not had the time. Broken bonnet release cable was a right pain in the arse, still its had alot of use over the last couple of years!

Will be picking it up this wed or thurs!!! :D

Cant wait, I've not had any proper use out of the C for months and months. I will post up some pics and my comments as soon as I get it back. Think I might be pissing off the bloke who's wiring it up, I keep ringing him everyday asking how hes getting on with it! He had some probs with the ecu which caused a hold up, but thats all sorted now.

:( Still not got it back. Cant get a spark to the plugs. Tried a new coil pack, no difference, then tried new cam and crank position sensors - still not working.. found some crushed screened cable in the loom whcih has been replaced. Still no joy. Spoke to him last night, said he's going to get a mate to check the timings all ok...... I seriously hope it is!!! He said his money was on a faulty ecu now... Great.

:brickwall: :help: sorry to hear that broseph.

Still, the end is in sight and it is a Corrado: did you expect a fault-free engine conversion?

Fingers crossed, I'll have it soon. My wiring wizzard plugged my ecu into a 4mo yesterday and got the same fault as mine. He's sourced an ecu for me which he's going to try later tonight!!!!

Really, really hoping its going to work. I need to drive it!

New ECU got the plugs sparking, but he found the pump wasnt delivering the fuel. Turns out the supplies to the fan controller, aux water pump and fuel pump are burnt out..... could well point to why my last engine failed so quickly.. too much heat and running lean anyone?

Anyway, he's going to rewire those bits and said I'll have it this week, but I'm off to Glastonbury on Wednesday night, so not too fussed about getting it this week. I will post up as soon as I get it back, expect some woop woop's. :D

Well, car is now turning over and running fine :D :D As seems to be my luck there was another problem, the banjo bolt on the power steering pump is leaking, so after having been run for a while, the next day he noticed overnight it had dumped aload of hydraulic fluid on the floor!! :mad2: So, he's getting a couple of new washers for it this avo (I lost one of the originals and used one from Halfrauds) fitting them, then thats it. Problem is he seems to be flat out busy all the time, getting called out and often gets dragged away from working on my car. So, I'm not going to hold my breath on getting it later.

Still end is in sight. :) So glad its running, he said it sounds smoooooth, although there is a lot of induction noise - down to my £10 filter off the bay...

Awesome work Chris!

I have a whole spare rack so let me know if you want me to post you one of those main body hard banjo-bolted pas lines :salute: sometimes washers just don't cut it (PO tried that on my car, and it's never held its fluid :brickwall: )

Looking forward to seeing it sometime!

good for you buddy - just had a quick read through this thread myself for the first time.

my r32 engine should hopefully have been delivered today, so come the end of september i will be going through the same joys as you and karl!

i'm chickening out and getting the wiring done elsewhere as well! will be getting one of the storm conversion manifolds though, so i can do all the mechanics myself and all that i will need sorting elsewhere is the wiring.

by the way i'm a huge fan of your car - it's pretty much exactly the same as mine! - same wheels, same colour, similar engines very soon, and i've even got eagle f1's on the rears (and soon to be the front!) - haha :)

best of luck anyway matey - can't wait to see another conversion finished :D :D :D

Cheers Griff, your car sounds mighty fine too :D

Karl, how does it feel? Well although I've not got it back properly yet..... it feels goooood!!

Went to the auto-electricians workshop last night to sort out the power steering leak. Then fired her up, dissapointed was not the word, sounded like a complete bag of nails. Noisy, with a rough idle around 500rpm. Discovered the exhaust fitters had only nipped up the bolts onto the manifold, so tightened those up and it sounded much, much better, but the idle was still rough. We could hear it hissing/sucking in air, after a quick search we found a small break on the inlet manifold - looks like a hose was once connected that no longer needed, filed that down, bit of gaffer tape over it and oh yes, it sounded sweet :D With the bonnet down you can barely hear it!

Took it for a short blast and really was short as I couldnt take it of the trading estate, bit it moves, really moves, the powers there instantly, wheels lit up in second gear easily.

Few issues to resolve, the temp guage on the dash is miles out - so he's going to calirbate that with a ressistor to bring it inline. Also the oil warning buzzer comes on when you take it over two thousand rpm - this he said is due to the fact that originally there is a low oil pressure switch 0.6 bar and a high 1.8 bar, for some reason vw have dropped the high oil pressure switch, so he's going to do something with that. The only other thing thats highly annoying is there is a horrible rattle that disapears when you depress the clutch - must be the thrust bearing - clutch is working fine, not sure whats happened, I did bolt the box back up in the dark..

Its MOT is up so I'll pick it up on monday night then take it to my local VW specialist, he can pop the 'box off do the thrust bearing then get it through the MOT. I also got the guy to do me an uprated wiring loom so I can see at night now! I'm still not 100% sure about the power steering leak so he can do all that for me, the rack is not the easiest thing to work on without ramps!!

Can't wait to take it for a proper blast! It felt so, so good :D

....but I placed an order for a car today.....

Okay, its a company car - but is legally mine due to the way our company runs the scheme.

It's VAG. Is a hatch. 2.0l. 6 speed. 170bhp. 228 lb/ft. 18". Dual zone air con. :D

Oh, and I'm hoping to have this delivered in the next week or so!
