Need to tighten me nuts!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Please could someone advise as to what the correct torque setting is for wheel nuts? - (G60 4x 100)

Also are they called wheel nuts or bolts or lugs??

And finally - should they be loosened & re-tightened with the wheel on or off the ground?

Thanks!!

Hamza

I only know the answer to one of those questions....

The wheel should be on the ground when you first loosen the nut, otherwise you will just turn the wheel not the nut because it'll be quite tight. Likewise, when you do the final tightening the wheel should be on the ground.

I think 100nm seems like a fairly safe / universal value for wheel bolts..

100nm (80lb/ft)

They are bolts

Yes, tighten with the wheel in the air if possible. I find it aids balancing as you can't always guarantee the wheel spigots locate 100% with alloy wheels. The Rover style wheel nut hub is much, much better for this.

Just rest your leg against the tyre, 100nm is not a lot.
