declaring engine mods

hi guys just joined the forum, great stuff, hours of pure reading.

my mates got a supercharged golf,love the whistle and the pull through the gears! ive now battered the credit card oh no

picking it up on monday, thinking of putting it on myself, all weekend i hear?

ok back to the subject, does everybody with chargers declare to the insurance, if so what sort of increase are we talking about?

Definately declare mods like a supercharger! At the end of the day, if they catch you with mods on the car and they're not declared, you won't get a penny if it comes to a payout. Its just not worth it IMHO!

 

Speak to specialists like HIC or Brentacre!

Declare anything, insurance will use anything to get out of paying! If you hit a £50k merc, and you've got an exhaust system ya didnt tell them about they'll say your insurance is invalid, even if its nothing to do with the accident, purely because legally you're fubar

Most people have mentioned about hitting other cars, what if you happen to hit a pedestrian or cyclist?

 

Don't be a fool - declare ALL of your mods. If you can afford to modify a car then you can afford to insure the mods as well.

OK, before the you won't be insured brigade get excited, your insurance company is obliged to cover the 3rd party, regardless of what mods you have done, or your alcohol, drug consumption etc etc. They may, however take to suing you back for their payout(unlikely, but the possibility is there)

But, if you have any undeclared mods, they have every right to not pay you out in the event of a claim.

Don't take the attitude of "i'll remove it in the event of a smash" as I know of a few cars(one a supercharged VR) that were impounded by the police following a smack.

Basically, if your gonna fit it, you need to set aside the funds to insure it. You'll find that specialist companies as have been mentioned before, will sting you a relatively low amount of money considering the power increase that you will gain.

100% declare it, ok i'm an old git :lol: but i was only charged (get it) an extra £32 on my insurance, as Brentacre do a modified car scheme, which covers any engine mod to 220bhp at the wheels. so i'm just over that 220bhp at wheels. hence the £32 extra.

 

ps, it's easy putting a charger on. the last one i put on took me 4.5hrs to do :wink:

as already mentioned buddy, always declare any mods, with a specialist insurer the extra cost is often not as much as you think and far outweighs the consequences(sp?) should you not declare.

I declared everything on mine, even things they weren't interested in, just incase.

 

You don't want to be trying to remove the charger when your cars upside in a field or anything, better to be safe than sorry

yup.. always declare, its not worth the hassle not too.. i gave em a massive report including things like door pins and side repeaters.. why not!?

Well i'll have to call them and get a price on the insurance with it fitted,do i tell them that i fitted it myself?

I should be picking up the charger tomorrow was wondering if i need any specail tools to fit it, or if i have to get anything extra for fitting ie hoses,jubile clips,etc etc..
