Slimg60 0 Posted April 5, 2007 My car wouldn't start on monday. Was turning over but not firing. I then noticed the fuel pump wasn't "buzzing" when the key was turned. I then checked the fuse, ok. There's no voltage at the fuse holder though either, is this likly to be the immobilser? Any help would be great. Cheers.
Supercharged 2 Posted April 5, 2007 Either that or Ignition switch....
Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted April 5, 2007 Fuel pump relay will only trigger if it gets its switched earth from the ECU. The relay could be foobar'd, or just its earth pin. Or yes, ignitiion switch. Immobilisers don't need to touch the fuel pump to be Cat 2, so it shouldn't be that.
Slimg60 0 Posted April 5, 2007 The immobiliser is a Cobra cat 1. Is relay 80 the one for the fuel pump? it feels link the relay is clicking over when the ignition is turned.
Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted April 5, 2007 There is a search you know ;) Last post here will help: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21848 Cat 2 -> Cat 1 is nothing to do with the immobiliser still. Just means you have an alarm with a battery-backed-up siren, internal, bonnet and boot sensors. Still shouldn't touch the fuel pump.
Yandards 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Take the relay out and give it a few knocks on something hard. Might be a bust fuel pump.
Slimg60 0 Posted April 5, 2007 I've wired the pump straight to the battery and it worked. There's no voltage at the pump plug or across the fuse holder either.
Yandards 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Sounds like another high quality alarm install then. My guess would be that the alarm fitter has cut the power supply for the fuel pump and spliced the immob cable inbetween to enable switching. You could always try checking those points to see if it is still connected. If not just re-splice the fuel pump power lead to bypass that part of the immob. Slimg60 0 Posted April 6, 2007 Cheers for the replies everyone, sorted it this morning, found there was no earth on the fuel pump relay as the ECU plug had come loose. Now gettng a new alarm fitted as I'm not happy with the state of the wiring for the other.
