Andy665 0 Posted April 13, 2007 Off to the Bill Gwynne Rallyschool tomorrow for a full days tuition / instruction in a Mk2 Escort. Done a fair bit of track work with my job over the years but always wanted to do a rally day totally different techniques required Really looking forward to it but also nervous that I don't make a pratt of myself Update What a fantastic day out, all day in a Twin Cam Escort with hydraulic fly-off handbrake and a loose gravel special stage I'm pretty sure we had more fun in the Escort than the majority who booked the course in Impreza's - they were just too grippy Fantastic tuition, really encouraged you to get the car sliding, delicacy is definitely the key and took some getting used Really pleased with my end of day assessment - rated very good for reactions, smoothness and mechanical sympathy One guy got quite a hard time - told in no uncertain terms that he needed to improve his concentration, he demonstrated no smoothness, had slow reactions - poor sod turned up in a lovely Phase 2 Clio V6 - don't fancy his chances of keeping it one piece for too long Only thing I don't like about these kind of days is the amount of utter garbage you hear being spouted by know-it alls, find it very difficult to keep quiet Must frustrating thing was seeing Bill Gwynnes 14 year old granddaughter throw a car around far better than I ever could
Lippy 0 Posted April 13, 2007 nice one mate, i've driven a escort cossie rally car, it was totally amazing, so controllable even when driving through the side window. looking to do something similar again for my birthday later this year, you got any details? Paulr1980 0 Posted April 13, 2007 Listen and leave the ego at the door and you'll be fine. Gwynnespeed are great! My mates Alastair and John Moffatt (both pirelli ranked/BTRDA class winners) have worked with/driven for Bill for a few years and have only ever said good things. You'll have a fantastic day.. just make sure you report back on it!
Andy665 0 Posted April 13, 2007 Their website is at http://www.billgwynne.com It was bought as a b'day present for me by my better half, I strongly suspect she's hired a DB9 for me for my 40th this year - got her well trained :D

Wendy 0 Posted April 17, 2007 Glad you enjoyed the day, I have now had 3 days with Bill Gwynne's Rally School, 2 in winter months which I much preferred. Just incase anyone is looking to book a Rally Day I have also done Silverstone Rally School which personally I did not enjoy as much.. I have just had a Track Day at Donnington in a Honda Civic Type R - which was fantastic, receiving best score of the day, then a Porsche Experience Day at Silverstone last weekend. This was only 3 laps so was just that an experience - but worth it none the less.
