Wet sanding

Finally plucked up the courage to try my hand at wet sanding bodywork today.

 

Other halfs pearlescen blue Bora had obviously picked up a few stone chips in its 60k miles and I'd got a quote of £200 to get them all sorted.

 

After doing some reading up on http://www.detailingworld.co.uk and now being the owner of a Porter Cable polisher I thought I'd give it a try.

 

Ordered a touch-up kit from http://www.paints4u.com which is a superb company to deal with.

 

Easy bit was going round touching in the little chips, lost count after 50.

 

Hardest bit was taking the wet and dry paper to what was previously silk smooth paintwork - nervewracking isn't the word.

 

After a bit of trial and error discovered that it's actually amazingly straightforward - hardest thing is to pluck up the courage to use wet and dry with enough pressure to achieve the result.

 

I'd recommend that everyone try it - saved me a small fortube and taken real pride in doing some bodywork myself.

 

I forgot to take some before pictures but going to be doing the Passt this week and will take pics of that - then its on to the Nugget.

 

All the materials, paint and brushes, loads of wet and dry, clear lacquer for all 3 cars cost me less than £40

i saw this done on a forum somewhere an looked scary stuff,mind u he also used his g/f's car to try it out on :lol:
