Recommended Posts

Ive heard on a few different occasions that there is 2 different sized intake manifolds,

is there a way of telling by looking at it?? does it make much difference if you change to the larger 52mm???

thanks

The standard intakes are 42mm, gut the first of the Golf 16v had the larger 52mm IIRC. The difference will be that the 42mm gives a better torque but worse top end and the 52mm does the opposite.

Theres actually 3 different types, the very early golf 16vs came with a long runner/small plenum 42mm,then approx 88on had 50mm small plenum.

All corrados and passats came with 42mm short runner/large plenum

O.K so i have a 2.0 16v which i assume has the 42mm manifold. In other peoples opinion what is best the 42mm or 50mm? and would the 50mm bolt straight on to my car?

I've tried both, I prefer the 42mm, the 50mm doesn't give you any more power it just shifts the torgue band up, meaning you need to rag it a bit more.
