Phil K 0 Posted June 25, 2007 Well sadly it's gonna be my 30th in just a few months and I have been thinging about what would make it a day to remember (apart form the obvious!) I'd like to go on a driving day and have had a look at a few options but am a bit unsure about what's going to be the best value for money! My father is doing a Caterham experience day next month and that looks like it'd be pretty good - plenty of time driving and a full day of it too! Some of these deals don't seem to offer all that much time in the drivers seat so obviously I'm looking for something which will put me behind the wheel of something really cool, will give me some good tuition and won't cost the earth! Any ideas much appreciated 8)
DanVW 0 Posted June 25, 2007 I did this for my 30th last year and it was bloody brilliant!! http://www.silverstone.co.uk/php/de_sin ... er_exp.php Cant recommend it enough and on top of that with all the lovely cars running about doing experience days and track events, my G60 got a lot of looks and positive comments 8) I thought about it loads as you get a choice of Caterham and a few other very quick cars but after agonising for a while I had to go with the Single Seater as its got to be the closest thing to an F1 experience you can get! Jim 2 Posted June 25, 2007 I did an experience with Everyman motorsport events over in Leicestershire. They do full half days where you drive 6 performance motors (Lambo, Aston, Porsche 911, etc) - if my short 1 hour Ferrari / Scooby session was anything to go by, you'd be behind the wheel for most of the time! :) Thoroughly enjoyed the day. I also noticed that Mercedes Benz now do track day type things at Brooklands.. sure that'd be a riot in an AMG powered monster :)
Andy665 0 Posted June 25, 2007 The problem with a lot of the driving days is the very limited amount of time you get behind the wheel due to the large group sizes. I got my wife the Ultimate Trackday last year from http://www.Driversdreamdays.co.uk which was superb if a touch expensive, maximum group size of 8 so loads of time in each car. If you are looking for learning about how to drive better I'd recommend something like a Bill Gwynne rallyschool day, I did a full day recently in a MK2 Escort and found it extremely useful

You need a clipboard and to be shouting "Easy left over crest!" with the rate he drives!!

Wendy 0 Posted June 26, 2007 Phil, I have done Everyman at Leicester - both Single Seater Formula Ford 1600 and Lambo Gallardo - would recomend them no problem - plenty of track time- (of course you never get enough time though) also done Rallying with Bill Gwynne Rally School also twice would happily recommend them too - however I would say a Rally Day is going to be better in Winter or with lots of rain !!! No problem for now then !! I have done several other Track Day events and used other Rally Schools but the ones above I would be most happy recommending. What happened to you at Le Mans this year - thought you were going ?? !!
Phil K 0 Posted June 28, 2007 Cheers for all the suggestions - plenty to look into now! Must say that rally driving appeals a lot - I'll get that clipboard ready for you next time you're in my car Andi  Wanted to come to Le Mans this year Wendy but finances were the main problem (although I was offered a last minute ticket and had to say no to it as I was already commited to cycling the London to Brighton  ) Have every intention of coming next year though :D
