hardyruth 0 Posted July 2, 2007 the arm on my sunroof is broken and therefore it does not close properly. it will close flat on the right hand side but because the arm with the pulley is broken on the left hand side it won't close flat. so my sunroof is sitting at an angle and the rain gets in! i have managed to force close it a bit more to keep most of the rain out but it looks terrible. the electrics are working fine so it's just the mechanics of it. if i buy a new sunroof are they easy to replace, they seem very hard to get at. does anyone have any suggestions? Supercharged 2 Posted July 2, 2007 You can get repair kits which are sided and I think it includes the part you mean...
Mike Edwards 0 Posted July 2, 2007 If it opens on tilt but doesn't close, you need a new cable. You probably also need a new 'water guide plate' as well, as this is what caused the cable to break. If it slides but won't close (or jams/scratches the roof), you just need the 'water guide plate. HTH
hardyruth 0 Posted July 3, 2007 thanks for the quick reply. where can i get the repair kit or this 'water guide plate'?
Jim 2 Posted July 3, 2007 Volkswagen! :) Go to the parts counter. If you're going to do the work yourself, set aside a nice dry day to tackle it and make sure you have plenty of patience... the sunroof mechanism is not for the faint hearted!
