Mike Edwards 0 Posted July 14, 2007 Having had time to think about it, are you happy with the results and do you have any advice to those who might be heading down the same route?
KADVR6 0 Posted July 14, 2007 thought i heard my name mentioned :) well mike i have had my seats dyed for about 3 months, and on the leather it is still 100% perfect 8) the only problem is on the parts of the seat that are vinyl ??, as it can wear off after time, its only a 5 minute job to re-dye a patch at a time. and after 3 months i have had to re do a patch about 6cm in diameter once, the company i used, are developing a base coat for the vinyl sections that are used in more modern cars, as they started doing the kits for older cars that never used vinyl. and my only advice is follow the instructions to the letter, and if your doing a full interior?? take them up on the offer of hiring out a compressor, as you will use loads of compressed air cans. here is where i got my dying kit from mike http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/index.htm if you want anymore help?? just ask mate. karl
Mike Edwards 0 Posted July 14, 2007 I have half-leather recaros and I'm only looking to re-do the side bolsters on the fronts. So I'm guessing I'll have to take the seats apart...
KADVR6 0 Posted July 14, 2007 well to do them 100% yeh you would need to take them apart, or you could mask the cloth centres, you do not make much mess when you do it. karl
steveo29 0 Posted July 15, 2007 yeah im still happy with mine i would personaly take the seat out and dismantle it as much as i can, that way you can make sure its all cleaned up right and the the re dye goes all the way to the edges, and it willl save any spills on the carpets etc just take some time to properly clean and sand the leather
Niges16V 0 Posted July 18, 2007 Does this reseal the leather with that nice smooth surface? I imagine after sanding it down it would leave an almost fluffy texture of the leather. The reason I ask is that my steering wheel is feeling a bit rough after many years of sweaty paws and strong sunlight so just thought this might give it a new lease of life?? steveo29 0 Posted July 18, 2007 you dont sand it until it gets furry but yeah ...it does make the surface smooth again, i found a few areas on mine werent perfect so i built it up with dye and gave it another gentle sand with fine paper then another coat
