Fault Codes

Out of curiosity you can buy a fault code tester in halfords, which says on the box works with a 9a engine which I am lead to belive is the corrado 2l 16v.

 

Anyway are there any other ways of reading the fautl codes, I know on vauxhalls you can connect two pins on the diagnostic plug and it flashes the codes up on the dash.

 

If this is possible on corrado's could some one tell me how and what the fault codes are.

Unfortunatly I don't know the fault codes how do I go about finding out what they are.
