Rear Brake Compensator Valve

Hi Guys,

 

I've been told that my rear brake compensator is seized on my corrado. I've had a good scooby on the forum and the answer seems to be spray it with loads of WD40 and hit it with a hammer :)

I'm happy to spray the WD40 but I'm a bit unsure to hit it with the hammer!

I know where the compensator is but can anyone explain in a bit more detail (perhaps with a pic) where i need to hit it with a hammer, where the pivot point is where they actually seize etc.

 

If the compensator is seized what is the result on the car? (it seems to brake fine)

 

The car is lowered and has Brembos up front, the chap I bought it from 3 years ago mentioned it was adjusted when the work was done. Is there any chance that the compensator is seized 'on purpose' for this reason.

If the compensator is siezed you won't get progressively more braking to the rear if you load the car up with weight in the back.

I managed to free one off by just letting it soak in penetrating fluid and working it by hand. They don't last forever though and a new one may be the safest bet.

unladen vehicle the spring should not quite be moving the valve, but not totally slack and wobbling about, so as the car drops with weight the spring will tug and open up the valve.
