vr6storm 0 Posted November 11, 2003 so come all you out there lets here what cars you have nearly bought and then wisely rejected.....here's a list of some that i test-drove and thought about buying Opel Monza 3.0E........W-reg and i was a mere 19yo.....can you imagine the insurance let alone the fuel bills    Escort 1600i convertable............just months after buying my B-reg XR3i i spotted this A-reg beauty thought real long and hard about it too........but the fact that my insurance broker actually knew the car and warned me about potential problems helped save the day Sierra RS cosworth 3dr........just when the insurance was getting cheaper i spotted this beauty at a local citroen garage of all places.......it had under 60k miles too FSH and was pretty immaculate.....all for a bargain £5k!!!!.....BUT needed a new clutch, wasn't under any warranty and i was always hankering after a 944 turbo.......actually quite regret passing this one by as it would have still kept its money......insurance was working out to be the same as what i would be paying on a 944 turbo.....which i bought just 5 months later BMW 328i coupe(E-36)......took this for a test-drive on a wet and windy winter's evening.........so nice sideways action  and some in-gear performance too  would have bought if it was A) a sport and B) was getting more for my trade-in BMW MINI Cooper......just before i looked at my storm i test drove a MINI and was in 2 minds whether to go for something brand new or go for a C........main attraction was the fact it would have been the 1st batch in Aberdeen and the 5years TLC package but the spec i wanted meant £14k-£15k   and the cooper S was not that far away either......and like all New Niche fillers they would be common as muck within a year and i would yearn for more than 115bhp in the end i think ive made the right decision with the C
biggrim 0 Posted November 11, 2003 Almost bought a Calibra     Then I spotted a Corrado and it all made sense :D
chris CORRADO 0 Posted November 11, 2003 me i almost bourght a MR2 (non turbo) tops out @ 135... ish but MR2 non turbo is group 16 insurance and slower than a corrado 2.0L 16v got it to 143 (private road) and still had juice (@ about 5.500 rpm...) which is group 15 :D since i'm 18 both cars is well expenceive but the group 16 one more insurance is like £4.000 more than the 15 group and the corrado has more juice than a non turbo MR2 + i racer one about 4 days ago and i left it standing....... LOL i love corrados....

munkay 0 Posted November 11, 2003 BMW E30 320 Convertible BMW E36 325 coupe - Nice cars but to common and not fast enough. Porsche 944 S2 - Not fast enough and getting on a bit, but I saw a nice clean one that tempted me. Nissan 200sx s13 - Was when I was thinking of selling 8v GTi before Corrado - Glad I didnt, was quick and smooth tho in its defence. Toyota MR2 Turbo - Still tempts me a bit, but only a black one with no rear spoiler as I think otherwise they look a bit sh1t. Recetly - Toyota Supra; but put off as I dont want to buy something I can't pay outright at the moment so unless someone wants to trade my G60 for one :)
RobyD 0 Posted November 11, 2003 I was looking for a first car and went to look at a nova 1.4 sr with my dad! It was at night in the dark and the car was wet, hence looked mint. Very nearly parted with my hard earned but my dad stopped me (thankyou dad  ). My dad went to have have a second look in the light the next day and to my dissapointment (i was young and confused  ) my dad could put his finger through the boot and there was rust around the window sills - didn't buy it! About 4 days later i bought a golf mk2 1.3 which i still miss! Not fast but a lot classier and had better build quality than the nova! Lesson learnt - dont go to see/buy a car in the dark or in the rain (and dont buy a nova, obviously  )

CazzaVR 0 Posted November 11, 2003 Mazda MX6 Honda Integra Si V-Tec Nissan 200 SX (would still consider one when the VR gets too old) Numerous C's, including a green Storm (failed it's MOT - ABS was knackered :( )
G60 0 Posted November 11, 2003 glad to see the s13 200sx coming up more and more.. they are badged 240sx's over here (2.4L 4-cyl) and my best friend has had one for almost three years now. great car, lot of fun.. but with a charger this car would be a blast. if he doesn't do an SR20DET swap i'm going to try to convince him to turbo the 2.4L.. now that would be a fun RWD car.. he can already do donuts all day the way it is. if i was in europe i'm sure i'd be tempted to get a hold of an RS cosworth... but as i'm not in europe and we don't have cossie's over here, i'll have to settle for ripping down my XR (same body, but with RWD 2.3L turbo) and rebuilding it. :D
Blown 0 Posted November 11, 2003 Nearly had a trade in on a R-plate Mitsibushi Shogun SWB 3.0V6 sport.Had it for a weekend tryout-swtiched it to two wheel drive(drove the rears)and almost went off the road, which admittedly was wet, with the girlfriend in the car,who on having a go thought she felt like it was driving a bus.So didn't get it. Praise the lord I saw the error of my ways!!!!! What the hell was I on that day!?

Nearly got one of these myself, but then started looking at s14's (2.0t). Also looked at bmw 328's, Clio 16v (a few years back) and almost got an Integra Type R instead of my vr6, but the mileage was very high and it was a bit out of reach price wise. Also been tempted by getting finance for an Ibiza Cupra 1.8t, but there were none around when I was looking.
vr6paul 0 Posted November 11, 2003 looked at 4x4 calibra turbo a couple of cars ago. when we went out it kept wanting to drive to one side of the road. decided against that one!

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 12, 2003 Nearly signed on the dotted line for a brand new Civic Type R but thought better of it. Also looked at a TT roadster and BMW 330 Ci on contract hire but again, the expense and fact they're both so common changed my mind. All 3 are superb fun to drive though. G40 AL 0 Posted November 12, 2003 Polo GTI, too slow! Corrado G60, needed too much work. BMW E36 328 sport, my bro loves bm's and was him who wanted me too buy it  told him to buy one if he wanted one so bad lol Just bought a 2000 W plate Golf GTI turbo, to keep the G40 compnay, shame I only have a single car garage:P  Alan
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 12, 2003 BMW E36 328 sport/quote] That was also something else I looked at, slightly more than a Corrado VR6 but a better car overall imo. BMW maintance put me off though, and we think Corrados are expensive to run! Kev

Nearly got one of these myself, but then started looking at s14's (2.0t). it's a 180sx in Japan... thats the SR20DET engine i mentioned, the 1.8 turbo. over here its a 240sx with a 2.4 naturally aspirated. with 25% more displacement in the 2.4L, i'd like to see my friend turbo the engine he has... although i've heard a tuned SR20DET is a BLAST!
