LOOSING WATER HELP!!!

Recommended Posts

hi all need some advice before i rip my engine apart

i have a 2.9 vr6 engine in a mk2

its been in just over a month

now when i drive steady the water level is great does not move

but if i drive it hard its loosing water i cant see any leaks anywhere

but i noticed the hoses go really hard full of pressure

i been told it could be headgasket issue?

the oil and water are not mixing so i was just wondering if it could be something

stupid or if anyone has come across this

help would be appreciated

cheers

Hi I had a similar problem with my VR6. I got a pressure check done and it turned out to be the radiator. I couldn't see the leak as the water was coming outas steam. Have a look at your radiator if you are using a coloured coolant (mines was pink) you will see traces of it on the mesh part of the radiator.

If your thinkin it may possibly be the hg, go to a local garage and they can 'sniff' in your header tank to tell if the hg is gone

Does it put alot of white smoke out the exhaust??

Big if, surprise you how many garages don't have these testers, VW dealers dont and all others I called never had bar one.

hey all my samcos turned up last week

fitted them yesterday and they is no more leaks and the pipes are not rock hard now

i can squeeze them

the car does not smoke only a little on a morning when its stone cold

was fine this morning strange i thought

just keeping a eye on the water now topped it up this morning as it had dropped a little

but that was due to refillin it needed to get into the system

I had a vr in a mk2 and the problem I discovered was the expansion tank I used was too small. It was round rather than a vr's which is more egg shaped. Didnt know that till later. Anyway when I used it hard the expansion tank would cough out water when I turned it off, Unknown to me and then I would check It later on the volume would be down. Sorted with a bigger tank. Also the hoses felt harder with a smaller tank. maybe more pressure caused by the small tank.
