Stage 4 - What should I expect?

Recommended Posts

Will be getting stage 4 rebuilt / chip and pulley soon and had a few queries :)

Already have powerflow custom exhaust decatted and Green induction

soooo...

1) Should I notice a big/worthwhile increase in power...like is it immediately apparent they shift?

2) What effect will it have on the torque/power curve/band on the revs?

3) What else should I get done other than oil feed cleaned/replaced? (ie intercooler cleaned etc..) (getting it removed and sent to Jabba by local German garage so hoses etc wil be done there)

4) Where did I leave my other set of car keys?

:)

Hello MUNKAY I have had the stg 4 charger and pulley fitted to my C with the same mods I have a powerflow de catted exhaust system, green induction kit when I had the jabba chip and pulley fitted last august the first thing you will notice is that the induction noise at idle is alot louder the acceleration will feel more punchy and generally it will pull alot harder than what it used to. I had mine rolling roaded at the same time just after having the chip and pulley fitted and it produced 202bhp @ the flywheel which I was well chuffed with!! If you want your I/C cleaned there was a thread on here not so long ago I think it was nigel G60Jet that started the thread i think he took his off and cleaned it with a de greaser in the end to get all the c*ap out of it!! Another worthwhile mod to think about is the isv reroute which basically means that you remove the boost return pipe from the charger you can either blank the inlet off or have a collar made (like me) and run a second induction kit. with the crankcase (rocker breather) hose you feed that to the bottom of a swirl pot and the top feed goes to the isv unit. This will prevent the loss of any boost and probably give you more boost to play with. I haven't fitted it yet but will be fitting it this week as all the parts are almos ready to be fitted to my motor

Cool thanks for all the info :)

Mine was rolling roaded in December giving 163 at flywheel so hopefully it has a good starting base.

Do you notice a really big diff in acceleration then?

more noise eh? hehe mine is so bloody loud as it is.....has a 5" rear pipe :/

Yeah you'll notice from the bottem end the acceleration is magic!!! If your having the stg4 rebuild at the same time you'll need to bed it in for at least 400 miles by not taking it over 2500rpm but once you've done that you'll notice a big difference in acceleration. I had my charger done 2 years ago and then opted for the chip and pulley last year so the charger was already bedded in when I had the chip and pulley fitted so I could give it some down the motorway :D Great fun!!!!

Hi Munkay,

Spoke to Roddy yesterday and he mentioned your new purchase, well done. Send me a email if you'd like to come for a blast and I'll show you

the difference the Stage 4 can make. All the best on future Corrado'ing...

I had my charger done by jabba at xmas and they said you must run it in for 400miles and DO NOT exceed 4000rpm (2500rpm is very low and very slow). I have just completeed 600km (400m ish about 40kilometers to go) on my new charger, i shall not be thrashing it just yet, im gonna take it easy and easy up the engine speed over the next few hundred Ks.

 do you realise what speed you get up to in 5th gear at 2500rpm, if you could get it into 5th!!! about 40km-h for a guess

Your on the right track munkay I was going to point out there are other chips available for the G60 what I have found with the Jabba chip is that it runs the car very rich all the time I ve got a emmisions tester at home and have tried to alter the co content coming out of the exhaust with not alot of sucess the best I have managed to get it down to is 3.2%co which is quite rich and would fail in the emmisions test in a mot. It should run between 1.0% and 1.5% so I ve been told with a maximum of 3%. I have recently been thinking of upgrading the chip to a Bahn brenner chip and uprated FPR but I have heard that the SNS chip is alot better due to the no digi lag so I will have to look into it a bit more before I commit myself.

you reacon we could get a group buy on these chips?

I'd be up for it as i need a new map for the hotter spanish climate!!, not sure about it not being done on the rolling road though!!

Surly one mapped on the rollers would be "tunned for your engine"

I would be up for it so long as I got some more info proving or explaining why/how they are better than Jabbas...not just the sales blurb on the website

The idea of no lag is very appealing :)

My golf gti had exact same prob to what with digi etc.

I must say i've got my questions on the lag too (becasue i dont understand it i think)

Now i hope i can explain this well.

Surley a kompressor works better when the speed is increased slowly rather than quickly, as this allows it to increase the flow in and out without "choking it".

with the digi lag you can't get a g60 to the same boost by booting it, as if you wind it up slowly (more progressivly than putting your foot straight to the floor), and believe me i've tried. My G60 takes of like a rocket if i press the gas at a moderate rate rather than striaght to the floor. Anyone else notice this!! Now is this different with out the lag. I dont see it as the engine still has to build speed before the compressor generates boost (well a large positive boost pressure in the manifold) So on a G60 is there any point?

Im not questioning the chip but, someone please explain this one!!

Yeah thats so true!

Dont floor it....if you are going along say at 30...then gradually push foot to floor...they really take off

I dont mind it to much as it sort off gives the car character hehe :)

But I guess it would be nice to have to have the power there all the time.

Does anyone from pitstop developments frequent these forums??

I've been reading alot of threads on the VWVortex site & SNS really do know their stuff when it comes to the G60 engine, especially the ECU chip.

The way I see it, is that when you are at WOT the Digifant system doesn't richen up the mixture for a second or so, in fact it runs leans!

Most chips are just altered ignition settings & maybe fuelling curves aswell, but they don't get rid of this digi lag.

SNS have cracked this digi lag code. But to make this work you'll need a 3.5bar FPR.

I'm definately up for a group buy on this chip. (I going to get one anyway, when I can afford it)

I'm sure Dubcharged can elaberate on this!! How about some discount on a group buy?? :)

I had a good long chat with him about it on MSN. Definitely seems the way to go.

Just have to find a bosch supplier for the FPR now.
