ardandy 0 Posted November 3, 2007 Ok, just replaced the temp sensor and that sorted that problem out! Woohoo! Unfortunately an old problem has re-appeared. On start up it revs at about 1,100rpm to 1,200 rpm, when it gets warm it then decides to idle at 250rpm! It doesn't cut out but its close! I had the Idle (something) valve replaced a few months back albeit with a used one. Am I being unlucky or could another sensor be out which would cause this? It also seems to overfuel when cold, whiteish smoke (although not loads) and a petroley smell. Any thoughts? Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
dr_mat 0 Posted November 3, 2007 The cold fuelly smell is normal (it's overfuelling like a bastard to warm the catalyst up), and the white "smoke" is steam, and it's normal too. You don't notice it so much in the summer but on these cold mornings it will be really obvious. The high idle isn't too bad (it's been pretty cold these mornings), but the low idle is .. it's MUCH more likely to be a sensor than the ISV, and I'd suspect it's another temperature sensor (there's about 4) causing it to misjudge the cold start cycle slightly. ardandy 0 Posted November 13, 2007 Just spoke to VW. Apparently theres a temp sensor on the inlet manifold, could that cause idling issues?
