timg60 0 Posted December 18, 2007 Ok have taken the wheel off and discovered that the heatshield above the back box has come loose. Hence it sounds like someone has thrown a handfull of stones down the exhast  . How have people fixed them back on? It looks like there was a round disc fitted onto a screw on the body that held it on before and the shield has corroded around that leaving a £2 coin sized hole in the shield. Suggestions???? As the noise is driving me mad cheers Tim
kow 0 Posted December 19, 2007 Find yourself a bit of alluminium, or could be any thin metal, top off a jamjar etc. Cut it into a round shape bigger than your hole in heatshield, put a hole in the middle which will fit over the pin, then use this as a washer/spacer which goes between heatshield and clip. Job sorted.
Supercharged 2 Posted December 19, 2007 Those original round clips are about 10p from VW but as above you will need a peice in the middle if corroded / broken The shield itself is not that much either but need to drop the box to fit...
fla 9 Posted August 16, 2009 Is there any way to remove the heat shield without removing the downpipe? I have clear access from my (emty) engine bay.
