matt_corradovr6 0 Posted January 14, 2008 My girlfriend has a 98 polo open air and the drivers door lock no longer unlocks the door, so you have to unlock from the passenger seat. just wondering what coul;d be the problem and possible solutions. new barrel and key? and if so how difficult and how expensive? thnks matt
AlgarveVR6 0 Posted January 14, 2008 HI Matt Do you mean that the key turning in the barrel doesn't unlock the door, or that when you pull then handle (when it's unlocked) that it doesn't open the door. 1st would mean barrell, second would mean broken or worn mechanism somewhere. (as you know with a C the handles are always stuffing up) Good luck Dic
Supercharged 2 Posted January 14, 2008 This may be the same problem with MK3 Golf door handles that was fixed in 98 just after production finished (ie the part was revised) Does the key turn with little or no resistance compared with the other doors? If so it's not the handle itself but the the hook at the end of the barrel thats broken...
matt_corradovr6 0 Posted January 14, 2008 the key is stiff wehn turning and doesn't unlock the door at all. i'msuspecting the barrel is knackered. is it easy to replace trhem, maybe from a scrappie with the keys?? don't really want it in the dealers as car not really worth it
tandino 0 Posted January 15, 2008 You can get a repair kit for the lock barrel from VW. The internals that turn inside the lock are made of shite cast ally and it breaks. Fiddly job but do-able, cost of the kit is about 18 quid for both doors. If you phone up your local VW dealer they should know exactly whats gone and be able to supply you a kit. Parts you want are:-21,23,24,25,
