Goldie 2 Posted January 23, 2008 Nice and easy job, best to have the car jacked up safely etc and go from underneath. The nut on the bottom of the filter housing is about a 33mm from memory, undo that and the paper element is inside. Change that for a genuine vag one (about a tenner) and your laughing.. dinkus 10 Posted January 23, 2008 The black plastic housing can often be a biatch to get off - you really do need a big mofo socket for it so you can get decent leverage on it. Make sure you clean out the housing and change the O-ring before re-fitting the filter. It's best to wipe a bit of fresh oil around the O-ring first to help it sit back into the housing. It's also obv a good idea to drain the oil first and re-fill with new after - 5.5 litres should do it. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Mystic Rado 0 Posted January 23, 2008 It's a 36mm socket, there's loads of them on eBay, just do a search. Drain the filter first using the allen bolt in the centre of the housing then replace it before you undo it as it reinforces the plastic and makes it less likely to break. You should also be able to remove the filter without using stands, at least I can even with the car lowered a bit from standard. Make sure you put a drain pan underneath, there's a fair bit in the housing also don't forget to fit a new o-ring seal, should come with the filter.
