Motorway engine revs.... 92 VR

Idle speed on the car is too high at the moment, but I'm hoping that a new temperature sender is going to sort that ...

 

Took the VR out for it's first spin on the motorway this morning - The clocks report that the car runs at 4250RPM at 70 in 5th gear. Car anyone tell me if this is normal??

Nope

 

Should be 3000rpm at 70mph in 5th

 

You might have the incorrect clocks, or the rev counter is faulty.

What do the clocks go up to?

 

(16v rev counts go to 7k)

Red-line band starts at just under 7k rpm - looks like the end of the red-line band finishes just short of 8k rpm

Err.. yeah i'm fairly sure they are 16V clocks dude!

Looks like ur right - just done an Ebay special and all of the VR6 clocks on there red-line at 6.5k rpm...

 

I'll add a new rev counter to my list then!!

Might need the whole VR6 cluster mate because the VR6 being a 6 cylinder sends 3 tacho pulses to the clocks instead of 1.

The speedometer/fuel gauge and everything else seem to work OK - The other thing that isn't right is the temp gauge but I'm hoping a new sender will sort that. Might be just as easy to replace the whole set of clocks tho and have done with it... Hohum
