Dr Forinor 0 Posted February 23, 2008 I managed to get the gold ring off the gearknob so the gaitor sides off it but I am still unable to take the gearknob off, how does it come off? I have just bought the SNS Billet gearknob, I assume this will fit fine? And yes, I have used the search but couldnt find anything

dinkus 10 Posted February 23, 2008 Gah. I was hoping to be the first one to reply and was just going to put "Screw"
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 23, 2008 There's also a clip which is at the the top of the gear shift rod which needs to be removed, otherwise no amount of screwing will get the knob off (..ooer) It's a bit of a ba$tard to put back , IIRC

dinkus 10 Posted February 23, 2008 Yeah but just typing "ham" into the search may not necessarily get you results relating to gear knob removal. Although if you do a topic search, it now will
Dr Forinor 0 Posted February 24, 2008 Hahaha, I didnt type ham But even after all those threads, I still cant get it off, it wont unscrew, any more tips people?

joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 24, 2008 You sure there's no metal circlip where the bottom of the gearknob meets the top of the rod?
Dr Forinor 0 Posted February 24, 2008 Fook me dont I feel like a plum, it was just unscrew, I just had to put a little effort into it, I think I'm a bit too paranoid sometimes that I might break something, either that or I need to start doing some weights, lol Thanks guys

I was going to post earlier 'you need to screw harder' but thought better of it  Hahahahahahaha, ah class, stroking it, sounds like I must have been eh but in my defence I have taken gearknobs off from at least 3 other cars (all non german) and they came off in a jiffy, without much effort at all, so thats why I was holding back a little cos it was different than any other car I have tried it in :? coolrado 0 Posted February 25, 2008 Maybe you could put this in the how to section. Knob Removal for beginners 1. Lift leather skirt around base of Knob. 2. Remove plastic ring from base of knob. 3. Firmly grip knob (using both hands if necessary). 4. Screw knob until it comes off in your hand.
Jim Bowen 1 Posted February 25, 2008 gripping your knob with two hands works best
