JasonSanders 0 Posted November 23, 2003 ive had the g60 2 weeks now and i have to say im vey dissapointed with it, mainly because it seems to be very slow, its barely quicker than a friend of mine 1.8 8v astra. Is something very wrong with my car? It had a new charger put on 19k miles ago and the charger has had stage 4 treatment any ideas why it is so slow? Henny 0 Posted November 23, 2003 Something doesn't sound right if you can't leave an 8V astra for dead... :? Where abouts are you based? May be worth finding someone local to try theirs and see if it's just a perception thing, or if there is something amiss with your G60... 8) Hope you find out what it is... 8)
Jim 2 Posted November 23, 2003 Well logic would tell me that something is obviously wrong if VW's coveted 1.8 8v engine mated with a supercharger is not producing better performance than a non-supercharged Astra engine!! You might wanna get the car down to a local specialist or to your stealer and get them to hook it up to VAG-COM or check it over!
stevemac 0 Posted November 23, 2003 I eat 1.8 8v Astras for breakfast... & 16v Astras for lunch.........

munkay 0 Posted November 23, 2003 If it has a stage 4 charger only then thats probably the problem so to speak. 0-60 aint *that* quick on a G60 as the gear box is not ratio'd for it. From 60-140 your car would piss on the vauxhall pile 'o poo. With the stage 4 charger you need to get a new pulley and chip then you will defintely notice the diference. I bought mine with standard chip pulley, fully expecting to add mods once bought. The diference a new chip and 68mm (or 65 if brave) makes is incredibly imho. It's not just a subtle mod tha you think you may notice, its blatantly obvious in that the torque is apparent from much lower down and the thing will take off in 2nd from 3k+. The best increase is from 70+ in 3rd/4th/5th as the pulling power really will show over standard. I went from mk2 GTi to G60 and expected what I got from the standard engine/setup, but was impressed by mods made. If you have the new charger then its 100% worth the upgrade, nay, imperative that you do it :) If your C does seem very slow atm then check the hoses for boost leak as that is likely to be the problem. Check hoses near battery as leaks will eat through and waste precisou power :) VW should have made G60's with 68mm pulleys and 3.5fprs as standard :) There should be no vauxhall on the road near you other than vx's or modded calibra turbos (sh1te) (n.b. This post contains anti-vauxhall sentiment)
stevemac 0 Posted November 24, 2003 Do you know how to test your boost levels? 1. Start Motor 2. Move the MFA selector to "2" 3. Press and hold the MFA end button (keep holding) 4. Stop motor 5. Start Motor 6. Release the MFA end button. 7. Press the MFA End button one time. You should now see approx 470-490 readings fluctuating with idle (warm engine). Go run your car!!! 3rd and 4th gear to REDLINE. Carefully note the highest #'s you've got. A pullied charger should not make less than 11.6psi, and even so, thats weak. A Stock charger should make ~~11psi in perfect shape! EURO Hg(#'s of boost/vacuum) Comments 200 -23.7 400 -17.8 600 -11.9 800 -5.9 1000 0 (Atmosphere- ala no boost, charger is bypassed) 1200 2.9 psi (Your charger is dead or big boost leak) 1400 5.8 psi (Your charger is about dead or big boost leak) 1600 8.7 psi (Your charger needs new apex strips or big boost leak) 1800 11.6 psi (Great for stock pulley, Probably needs new apex strips if 68mm pulley) 2000 14.5 psi (Great for 68mm pulley on stock charger) 2200 17.4 psi (Great for 68mm pulley on heavily ported charger, hold on to your ass fast!!) 2000 and up folks need to be careful with fueling, as the programming maps end at about 2000 on the ecu :) Dynotuning, and air/fuel/egt gauge, and custom chip recommended
g-master 0 Posted November 24, 2003 To be fair you've only had it 2 wks and just having a stage 4 charger on its own ain't going to increase power much!!!! The g60 is a heavy car cause it's built so well so standard performance is not mind blowin and the gear box is no good for 0-60 sprints. I thought the same at first but once you get a 68mm pulley and chip (go for an sns) its a different story :D Stick with it have the mods done and you won't be dissapointed!!!! Dubcharged 0 Posted November 24, 2003 YEP! Standard G60 is a wolf in sheep's clothing. TAKE OFF THAT SHEEP SUIT!!! But be warned, some chips retain the sheeps balls
biggrim 0 Posted November 24, 2003 But be warned, some chips retain the sheeps balls Hmmmm, I wonder what chips that might be? :) I need to get me an SNS upgrade to fully exploit the potential of my stage 4 chip (J@&&@) and 68mm pulley. Skint the noo though, bollox!
