Restoration project K931 RBV

Recommended Posts

Thanks Pete,

compression is supposed to improve with running and bedding in, I'm just relieved that its running after the farce of the initial rebuild at Specialised Automotives. I very nearly had it rebuilt by a 'proper' rebuilders but couldnt afford another set of bolts etc, so having to suck it to see and hope its right this time! and no mate its my place, if youre ever up this way call in, but see you at the BVF anyway hopefully, looks like Sunday for the concours :cuckoo:

Thanks iceviolet,

great thread on compression test proceedure, will do it by the book next time  all I did was remove fuse 18 for the fuel pump, didnt disconnect inlet, dizzy, or floor the accelerator! will see if it makes a difference!

Kip, will have a ride over one evening, up to 450 miles so far but still need more. I had forgotten how much I just love driving it, dont need a radio just that exhaust note :luvlove:

You have a tool that screws into the plug hole, and turn the engine over, the guage then shows you the pressure in the cylinder.

Not quite that simple though mate - Battery must be good and engine must to be up to temp, Coil pack unplugged (or king lead) and fuel pump relay removed (or plug for injector rail)- when cranking the clutch needs to be depressed (as it should always be when starting up) and throttle needs to be wide open - this makes a huge difference to the accuracy of the figures and you should repeat the test at least once to validate the results.

Wow!! I thought mine looked quite clean underneath but yours takes it to another level! Did you have any rust anywhere in the arches? Mine had a few bits and bobs but nothing too bad thank god. Glad to see the engine is more or less sorted, but what now? A few shows and a few more sunny days out?

I bet you jetwashed it underneath after its rainy day out thugh! I know I would have done!

Thanks Kip

The only rust I found was on the jacking points behind the subframe and a little around the towing eye at the back, all cleaned and treated before recoating.

Still seem to have engine issues, Dave and Graham had a look today and there is definate pressure differance on no.2 which will need to be investigated, still causing uneven running and power loss. :bad-words: I have just bought a spare motor which may be slotted in until its cured to keep me running

Dead chuffed at my 2nd attempt at concours at the BVF, just 1 point behind Judiths storm and not that far behind Chris Gaskills rocco :notworthy: :notworthy: Will try third time lucky approach after a few more improvementsBVF 012.JPG[/attachment:14qgexpt]

Loved the show, beautiful area and made some new friends, will be back next year

Have been off the scene for a while for a number of reasons but have rekindled my love affair with the Corrado.

The car has been sat for 3months so decided to give it a clean and polish, replaced the battery which had run dry due to constant trickle charge, must get a better conditioner unit, and dropped on a brand new set of monte carlos in the boxes [bargain off ebay-cheers Kip]036.JPG[/attachment:gqzs2nzx]

Thanks for the comment 3 months ago Toad, sorry for the long response, have noticed you have been very productive with yours in the interim, looking good:notworthy:

Thanks guys for the comments,

Kip and Jude: Lift is always available but a fee of 1point at the next concours competition will be levied

Vag hag; hope to pick a charger up from the classic car show this month, no more boiled battery :nono:

Emkayvr6; have just read your gallery and concluded that you must be a nutter to volunteer to hang on to a sidecar unit on a race track, I tried passengering a dirtbike unit a while ago :pukeright: , 5 minutes was as much as I could stand, the strength required to hang on against the g force was unbelievable :notworthy: keep up the good work on your corrado

£160 for the set, bargain of the year

Looking good, btw have you done anything to your brake lines or are the double from front to back original?.

IIRC my C only got 1 brake lines coming from the front, then into a "t-split" thingy before going into the compensator at the back......

Hi Mawrich,

yeah, noticed on your gallery you only have one brake line, I have recently bought a left hand drive german Vr6 for spares and noticed it too had just the single brake line!! I have not seen a uk registered raddo without dual lines, dont know why this should be

Your project is coming on a treat :notworthy: I would love to personalise mine but have gone down the concours route :brickwall: :brickwall:

Haha yeah a most people think i'm pretty nuts to passenger a sidecar on track but i love it and your right the g force is pretty strong, Fair play for giving it a go off road, think it can be just as physical tho off road as the track is nice and smooth not a rutted up field so while on track is faster ur not gettin bumped around anywhere near as much.

Still, remember puttin my head up to look where the breakin point was on Snetterton's Back straight whilst doin 150-160 and nearly gettin ejected stright off the back by the force of the air goin over the fairing............ Now i just listen for the engine slowing

had forgotten about my thread, must update it as have done a few things lately.

Hope to see your's in the flesh one day as it is truely awesome resto, love seeing no rust anywhere and everythig looking fresh and its pretty much the way i want to go with mine eventually although mine will have a few more custom touches

Cheers

Mart

I was actually planning on keeping it as stock as possible - including the airmanifold, but as I wasn't happy after I sandblasted it (and the "salty" bits most likely would return) I opted for powdercoating.....:)

I guess my car will stay stock "enough" to still be a "stock" car....lol....;)
