Sounds like an old fiesta in the mornings!!

Recommended Posts

Recently bought my G60 - well chuffed, still cant wipe the silly grin off my face as I power past the boy racers in their escorts. Only trouble is in the mornings when I start her up she sounds like an old escort, is this normal until she warms up or is there something that needs doing ??(I'm not mechanicaly minded! and would like to point the garge in the right direct without getting ripped off! )

Well you'd basically need to replace your tappets as thats probably what the cause is.

I believe it cost me about £230 at Stealth Racing to have that done on my 16v, but as the G60 is 8v it should cost a little less. I also had all main & aux belts replaced as well just to make sure all was running well in that price. So I am sure you would be looking about £200 to get it done at a specialist.

Mine used to clatter for a few seconds in the morning till the tappets adjusted.. after getting them done was super smooth even at cold :)

You could also look at getting an oil change done as a temporary measure, and use a slightly thicker grade of oil - I went from 10w/40 to 15w/40 and it did make a noticable difference.. things were a lot quieter!

is it a 16v by any chance as they are verycommonly known to have noisy tappets for the first few seconds ( shouldn't be minutes) though a new set of tappets are reletively cheap £6.50 each from Euro Car Parts and then an hours labour for fitting £150-160 max I would think by a garage that knows what they are doing
