bcstudent 0 Posted April 2, 2008 The French police are very hot on speeding offences now also. We get off pretty lightly here compared to the residents over there. The French police speed traps/cameras are rarely in plain sight. Cameras are often hidden in old cars parked by the roadside. In some ways I consider us to be the lucky ones. dirtytorque 0 Posted April 2, 2008 If cameras are placed in accident hot spots then they should be visible to slow the traffic down.
Guest Posted April 2, 2008 But in this country with our "road mentality" people only obey laws when they are financialy penalised like driving in the outside or second lane for hours on end doing 50mph, why do people do that? just road ignorance, again punishable by fine for inconsiderate driving/lane dicipline, if more people were fined for it that would stop a fair bit too, but instead of increasing traffic police they employ wombles who put cones out pretending to be police :cuckoo: Like your virtually non existent local Community suppot officer :censored: about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike speed cameras are only placed where there have been at least 4 fatal or very serious accidents in a 12 month period Got to disagree on this one - I know many brand new stretches of road that had speed cameras placed on them from day one, that can be for one of only two reasons: 1. To raise revenue 2. The road was poorly designed in the first place Maybe on that road it was put in as a preventitve measure also? and probably a condition due to the type of road it is for potential speeding? we all like new tar mac  sure the cameras make money but it only pays for the up keep and more cameras :| so if you get caught by one you are actually paying for more or to maintain the one that got you
