newbie on the lookout for a VR6

Recommended Posts

hi all, i'm on the lookout for a corrado VR6 at the moment and was needing some advice on the timimg chains..

is there an actual mileage when these should be changed or are they normally changed when they become noisy? im handy enough with a spanner to do this myself but i would like to budget for this if a suitable car came up that was needing the chains done.

only viewed one corrado so far, i have about £4000 to spend so hopefully that should get me a good one,

if anyone has one for sale in scotland let me know

£4000 will get you a fairly decent car! dont go so much for low mileage cause all will be around the 120k mark now look for one thats got good service history and has had chains done with decent bodywork, you will find one, I waited and got a good un! and i love it :D

Mine will be for sale shortly for nearer 3k. That would get you a mechanically sound vr with some of the right mods, and leave you enough cash to sort out some bodywork that needs doing. :)

It's difficult to tell really as you can have chains that are noisy that will last for ages yet (as proved on one of my fella's previous rado's). It all depends on the specific corrado really. There are lowish mileage corrados that have had or need the chains done as well as high mileage ones that havent had them done and that are quiet and dont need them done.

It's pot luck really lol.

Id say any VR with the early upper tensioner with mileage in excess of 100k is on borrowed time tensioner wise.

Doesnt matter if they are quiet - that can mean that they have worn through the top rivets so have nothing left to rattle on

Mine was silent chain wise but the rivets were long gone
