Advice on VR engine

Recommended Posts

I've got a chance to get hold of a VR with 158k on the clock but the seller describes the engine as 'tappety from cold' until warm. The chains and tensioners have not been replaced, does this sound bad or normal for this mileage?

The car does have FSH and 12 month MOT. I've viewed the car today and other than the 'tappety noise' it sounds ok.

I have the chance to get this VR at a very very low price.

Thanks for any help.

Dave

The tappets on a VR are hydraulic and can be a little noisy until you are getting full oil pressure after start up. I'd be wary if they are excessivly noisy or take a long time to quieten down. Could be a sign of an oil pressure problem.

if its still cheap or at least good value after you've spent about a grand (being cautious here) on the engine then go for it :)

If a grand would sort the problem then yes the car would be very good value.
