Front slam panel

Recommended Posts

Looking to remove the front slam panel off a 1993 16V Corrado.

Looking at the job apart from having to remove lots of items it looks as if you have to tamper with an engine mount.

Once removed would it be possible to push the car around on the drive? It engine is shot in any case but I am not at the point to remove it. Think the answers no but if anyone knows better would appreciate comments as it would make the job much easier.

I'm fairly sure the front panel will come off without touching the front cross-member (which is what the engine mount attaches to0.

However, you will have to remove the front bumper - the bolts holding that on also secure the front cross member.

With the front bumper off, the car can be pushed, but don't drive it.

There are 2 13 mm bolts holding the front subframe on if you remove the 4 large 17mm bolts. Probably best to replace the large ones after you've removed the bumper or put an axle stand under the subframe.

Do not remove the central 13mm bolts (1 on each side) when removing the front bumper - the front x-member & engine will fall on you !!

Took another look at the job and see what you mean about the 2 off 17mm and one off 13mm each side. Managed to remove nearside. Supported subframe during the work. I seemed to have to remove all three bolts to get the bumper bracket out. Fading light stopped play.

Many thanks all

Front bumper is not secured by the central 13mm bolts - only the 17mm outer ones. Sounds a bit strange when you look at it though !!

stevemac is dead right here just undo the 4 17mm bolts and then ease the bumper off the innerarch shields and the bumper will pull foward.. remember you need to unplug the indicators/fogs too...
