mattnorgrove 0 Posted May 15, 2008 Try disconnecting the positive terminal on the battery, tapping it 5 times on the positive contact then reconnecting. This cured mine in my old valver when it froze totally... Worth a shot... :)

I thought exactly that ( :cuckoo: ) when I was trying to sort mine, but, it worked! Does sound a bit black magic though I admit! :D :D
colinstubbs 0 Posted May 16, 2008 You gotta have a bit of luck with these things. My stereo had alternator whine so I disconnected/reconnected all rca cables............ sorted!
cdem 0 Posted May 16, 2008 Ive been trying to get my MFA sorted for a few weeks now. Its reads 3.1 when im sat still and 23mph when im sat still. I will try disconnecting the battery and tapping it a few times lol
colinstubbs 0 Posted May 16, 2008 Mine has the classic 99.9mpg, I wish! I've checked all the vacuum lines and they seem okay. It's running and idling okay and when I did the secondary function thing and read the pressure bit it's nowhere near the readings given in the Bentleys manual, but then I've got a Valver so I don't know if the readings would be the same???? Anyone? Seems to me like the white vacuum sensor maybe u/s but they're apparently £200 from VW so it's still not fixed!! Not the end of the world, maybe I'll chase it after exams, soundproofing, fitting interior, sorting pond filters and external power sockets, finish bathroom etc etc etc
blackcorrado 0 Posted May 16, 2008 oh well guess it'll never work then
Guest Posted May 19, 2008 My golf cabriolet MFA does this every now and then, I was told its the negative terminal you need to disconnect tap a few times with a spanner or simmilar to release static charge I was told this by a VW technician, it happens because of static or summink interferes with the circuit Dunno the ins and outs of it, but it definately works as i have had to do it the cab a few times
blackcorrado 0 Posted May 23, 2008 so ive gota take negative lead off and tap it with a spanner?
mattnorgrove 0 Posted May 24, 2008 so ive gota take negative lead off and tap it with a spanner? Not sure if it matters which lead, I did the "tap 5 times on the terminal " trick with the positive and it worked. If one doesn't work, try the other..
