TajMan 0 Posted November 30, 2003 My distributor rotor isn't coming off. Is there some trick besides pulling it straight up? It's come right off with no problem on every other car I've ever worked on. :?:
h100vw 0 Posted November 30, 2003 Vise grips to crush it. Make sure you have the right one to fit though first. Or do it outside the dealer so you can go back in for a second go! I think it could be bonded on like the 16V. Gavin
Brando 0 Posted December 1, 2003 Don't do what I did, ask a VW mechanic about how to remove a bonded on one. Then belive him when he says it won't be "vw have never glued them one, just use a screw driver to prise it off" And then go out and buy a new distributor because the plate bent long before the arm moved :(. Jim 2 Posted December 1, 2003 Yeah its literally glued on.. when I swapped the rotor arm on my 16v, I used molegrips which just cracked a bit of the case and then had to take to it with a small hacksaw. Its a ballache for sure. Don't worry about bonding it on either once its replaced.. god knows why VW do it.
TajMan 0 Posted December 1, 2003 I just pulled hard and got it off. It didn't look glue on or anything, just corroded/rusted on.
