Dodgy horn

Recommended Posts

Not a Corrado problem but a mk2 one this time. For some reason the horn has decided to play up. It sometimes works, then it doesnt.

The times when it doesn't work the revs go up, and if you put all the lights on i.e. headlamps and fogs then it definitely doesnt work...until you put them off again. Also if you put the hazard lights on, as soon as you press the horn they freeze and then start again when you take your hand off the horn!

Any thoughts what this could be? Maybe new fuse box needed, or some old wiring needing renewed?

Earth straps have all been renewed

Thanks

I'd check the wiring and metal contacts inside the steering wheel for a start, but it sounds like there's a dodgy earth somewhere.

LOL!

Jules, I'd think about maybe checking the relays for the horn and hazards, something must be shorting somewhere for the two circuits to be linked like that.

Guys, thanks for your replies.

The contacts all seem to be okay inside the steering wheel but will check for anything that might be shorting, or like you say Dinkus, a bad earth.
