hayzo 0 Posted December 2, 2003 Went to my car to drive home from work as usual to find that the radiator fan had been running all day which is usual as I hadn't driven it all day and the car was cool. The interior light was dim inside so I thought the fan had flattened my battery, I got someone to jump start it for me but the car wouldn't turn over in fact it didn't wouldnt make any sound at all. I gave up on this but as the battery now seemed to have charged alittle I tried to bump it but that didn't work either. It sounds to me like my alarm (cliford concept 50) is acting up apart from the bit about the fan Any ideas please I'm stuck at work.
Riki 0 Posted December 2, 2003 I would try and give the battery a good charge first of all. Over night on a good charger is best. If you are getting ingnition lights but no crank have a look at the ignition switch. They are a bit prone to being faulty. If you have no ignition lights it may be down to the alarm. Try removing the main fuses to the alarm, leave it for 5 mins then reinsert them. If your alarm doesnt disarm put in your valet code and try and start it. Another crude method is give the starter solenoid a hit with a blunt object! They sometimes stick too! I hope this gives you somewher to start. :D
hayzo 0 Posted December 3, 2003 It was the alarm some how it had got confused probably the low voltage, it looked like it was turned off but the car was immobilised. I disconnected the battery re-attached this must have re-set the alarm because it jump started first time. Cheers
ben16v 0 Posted December 3, 2003 is it usual for anyone`s fan to run all day when not driven??? or is that a typo?
stevemac 0 Posted December 3, 2003 is it usual for anyone`s fan to run all day when not driven??? or is that a typo? There is an "ambient" air temp sensor in the engine bay. This sensor can cause the main cooling fan to operate for upto 20 minutes after the engine is switched off. If the above is not a typing error then this sensor is likely to be faulty.
