Bramble VR6 - Rust Repair

Recommended Posts

So, after 6 years of almost entirely fault-free motoring, it's time to say farewell to the much-loved old 2.0 8v... :(

Why? I'm trading her in for a VR6 this weekend! Pics to follow...

Looks like a lovely 8v though! I hope you haven't let it go for cheap as they're becoming more and more sought after!

I assume you're trading it at a Corrado specialist?

It's not bad, apart from the dent on the roof from where some drunken fool mistook it for a trampoline! I've got £1100 for it through TCS. I know I could probably have sold it for a few hundred more privately but I didn't want the hassle.

Absolutely, completely and utterly IMO

You'd have sold that on here very quickly, if it's in as good a condition as it looks I see no reason why you wouldn't get £2k for it - i'd be happy to pay that.

At the moment people can't afford to run most Corrados so demand for the 8v is on the up, especially with low mileage/owners and in nice straight condition.

The 8v has almost 88k. Have I been robbed?

i bet you he will try and sell it for about 2.5k.

And he'll get it too I reckon , like I say - the thought of a rado that will return 35mpg+ on average (i've seen way over 40mpg from 8v's) is very tempting to alot of people nowadays - i've no intention of getting back into rado ownership for another year or two but would seriously consider a low mileage decent 8v.

Bugger! I'm supposed to be swapping them over tomorrow. I told him I was looking for about £1800 and he said that was about what he'd sell it for. He offered me a grand and I struggled to get the extra 100 quid out of him :confused4:

Ah well, 'tis a great shame but as long as you're happy with the deal that's all that matters I suppose!

Lets hope the Vr6 gives you as trouble free motoring as the 8v anyhow! :)

TCS will make a right mark up on it, sound enough bloke but he knows what hes doing, u just sold to him or picked a vr up off him part x? ive only used him for parts usualy pannels and hes very reasonable. he seems to be able to pick corrados up cheap with all his advertising which is fair play but if your buying off him he told me his spayer works up to the profile/ angle between the window and door handle and leaves the top so its woth looking there to see how good a job they have done

 yeah, It was the wheels that made me realise you were the matey on here and DCO. Looks like a nice car, no doubt you'll be chuffed with the VR!

Eh? :?

Lets see some pics of the new one then mate :) I can imagine you've got a fairly large grin on your face after driving an 8v for 6 years - 3rd gear in a VR6 compared to the 8v is a completely different ball game!

at least you won't be paranoid that the wheels are falling off hey mate ;)

I haven't picked it up yet - should be about 5 pm, followed by a spirited hour and a half driving it home. Although, having said that, it's raining so it might be a more sedate journey. Had a funny conversation with a [probably new] girl at Direct Line this morning. First of all, she said good evening Direct Line (it was 10 am!), then she misheard the reg number I gave her. "Is it a Vauxhall Corsa 5 door?" :nono: Er... no! Then she said "A Vauxhall wagon Carodo 2.9?" Close enough

Pics will be on as soon as I can manage.

Here's a little teaser until I get my camera properly charged...

VR6.jpg

I didn't really have a proper opportunity to enjoy it because the weather's been so crappy and I haven't quite settled in to it, even though it should feel very similar to driving the 8v, albeit with that added grunt. At first I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. It seemed to pull exactly the same as the 2.0 at low revs but then I remember hearing that they like to be revved and... oh boy! Once you get above 4,000 in second it's like the extra 0.9 really kicks in and she properly spreads her legs!

There's a few little problems that need to be addressed. Most notably, part of the windscreen trim won't stay down and after driving for about 15 minutes it started flapping around and slapping the driver's side window. A dodgy windscreen replacement methinks?! I hope that doesn't mean it's been letting in water and rusting around the frame :pale: What can I use to bond it - I'm guessing household solvents are probably out of the question?

The driver's side inner door handle is quite wobbly and feels like it's about to snap every time I open the door so that's me decided... I'll get a pair of those chrome ones.

More pics when the weather's a bit nicer and I've had a chance to do a proper wax...
